Cancer Incidence in Living Liver Donors After Donor Hepatectomy
J Korean Med Sci. 2023 Sep 4;38(35):e277. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e277.ABSTRACTLiving liver donors (LLDs) are screened for transmissible diseases including cancer. We investigated the actual cancer incidence of LLDs compared with a matched healthy control group from the general Korean population using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Services (NHIS). A total of 12,372 LLDs who donated a liver graft between 2002 and 2018 were registered in the Korean Network for Organ Sharing. They were compared to a matched healthy control group selected from the Korean NHIS. Cancer diagnosis was identified in 175 LLDs (1.4...

Fracture Risk in Middle-Aged and Older Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Korean Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: The risk of bone fracture, especially vertebral fracture, is high in middle-aged and older Korean patients with IBD. Obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and lack of exercise are all risk factors associated with bone fractures in patients with UC. These findings are helpful for clinicians to educate patients with IBD on bone health and raise awareness of bone fractures in patients with UC who have specific risk factors.PMID:37667580 | PMC:PMC10477079 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e275

Assessment of Diagnosis Timing of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Working-Age Workers with Psychiatric Diseases Using Large Claims Data
This study aims to clarify the timing of diagnosis of ADHD in working-age workers with psychiatric comorbidities using large claims data in Japan. Based on a literature survey, we identified 10 typical comorbidities of ADHD. Among 3064162 participants with social insurance, 215060 working-age workers who were diagnosed with the 10 typical comorbidities of ADHD were included. Cohort 1 consisted of 96994 patients with the index date set as the earliest date of diagnosis of a comorbidity within the 12-month screening and 12-month observation periods. In cohort 2, 107436 patients were included, and the first date of diagnosis ...

Retrospective Case-Control Study of REGEN-COV (casirivimab and imdevimab) Therapy for Patients with COVID-19 and Cancer Using the United States MarketScan ® Database
Conclusion Patients with cancer treated with REGEN-COV experienced a decreased risk for hospitalization, hospitalization duration, and total COVID-19-related costs. Patients with cancer were at a higher risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 than were those without cancer. The use of neutralizing antibody therapy may reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 infection for patients with cancer with an otherwise high risk. Future replication studies should be conducted using other databases that include Medicaid users and other insured persons for comparison and validation.PMID:37666220 | DOI:10.1159/000533614

Effect of a Family Pharmacist System on Medication Adherence of Patients with Dyslipidemia during a COVID-19 Epidemic
In this study, using anonymously processed receipt data from 700 insurance pharmacies in our group, we evaluated medication adherence in patients taking statin drugs before, during the first and second years of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic in terms of medication persistence and medication possession, and compared the results between the family pharmacist group (FP group) and non-family pharmacist group (NoFP group). The odds ratios of good medication adherence (medication persistence and medication possession) rates for the FP group relative to the NoFP group were 1.446 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.210-...
