Recombination in sarbecovirus lineage and mutations/insertions in spike protein are linked to the emergence and adaptation of SARS-CoV-2
Bioinformation. 2022 Oct 31;18(10):951-961. doi: 10.6026/97320630018951. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan city, China in December 2019 and thereafter its spillover across the world has created a global pandemic and public health crisis. Right after, there has been intense interest in understanding how the SARS-CoV-2 originated and evolved. This paper also aims to shed light on the origin and evolution of SARS-CoV- 2. A consensus result based on whole genome phylogeny, gene tree analysis, and genetic similarity study revealed that SARS-CoV-2 evolv...

Amlodipine downregulates gene expression that involved in the signaling pathways of coagulation process in COVID-19 patients: An observational clinical study
This study was carried out in the Department of Pharmacy at Al-Kut University College in Wasit, Iraq, in conjunction with Al Zahraa Hospital from June 2021 to March 2022. A total of 45 COVID-19 patients participated in this study who were grouped into as follows: Group I (n = 23) who had no previous history of hypertension and Group II (n = 22) who had previous hypertension and were treated with amlodipine. Expression of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), coagulation factor V (F5), and methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase (NADP+ dependent) 1 Like (MTHFD1L) genes was determined. P values were calculated by Chi-square t...

Metformin and Covid-19: a systematic review of systematic reviews with meta-analysis
Conclusions More in-depth studies on the use of metformin, compared to other molecules, may be required to understand the real protective potential of the drug against negative outcomes caused by COVID-19 infection in DM2 patients.PMID:37695186 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS3.14405

Impact of the educational program "Igiene Insieme"in 1,991 Italian primary schools: student behavior and  incidence of SARS-CoV-2
CONCLUSIONS: We report an overall positive effect of health education interventions in primary schools. Although the limitations in the study design, our findings are important to inform planning, implementation and monitoring of health promotion campaigns in young generations so as to contribute to limit the risk of infection spread at the community level.PMID:37695175 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS3.14561

Promoting societal resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic: a multi-country analysis of public health strategies
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of Public Health in developing proper strategies and utilizing digitals tools to counteract infodemic and spread relevant information. Healthcare workers should improve their communication skills to face future epidemics and be trusted by the population. Social media and digital platforms should be studied and used effectively in times of emergency.PMID:37695174 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS3.14562

Innovative COVID-19 diagnostics and testing strategies in Italy, Denmark, UK, Israel and Sweden: a comparative analysis including tests, incidence and mortality
In this study, we analyzed the use of these techniques in five countries (i.e. Italy, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Israel) based on their specific national testing and contact tracing strategies. We also examined the number of tests performed per week, the positivity rate of tests, and the mortality rate in these populations during the same time periods. These countries were chosen based on the directives of the consortium involved in the CORONADX project.PMID:37695173 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94iS3.14565
