Assessment of Knowledge and Perception of Sodium-Glucose Co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) Inhibitors prescription Among Physicians in Saudi Arabia
CONCLUSION: While the study cohort scored high in the knowledge and attitude domains of the survey, a large proportion failed to answer very essential questions in type 2 diabetes management. An educational awareness program needs to be carried out to strengthen the physicians' knowledge of SGLT2 inhibitors prescription.PMID:37415371 | DOI:10.2174/1573399820666230706125244

Ceftolozane-Tazobactam Versus Ceftazidime-Avibactam for the Treatment of Infections Caused by Multidrug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa: a Multicenter Cohort Study
Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2023 Jul 5:e0040523. doi: 10.1128/aac.00405-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCeftolozane-tazobactam (C-T) and ceftazidime-avibactam (CAZ-AVI) are two novel antimicrobials that retain activity against resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The comparative effectiveness and safety of C-T versus CAZ-AVI remain unknown. A retrospective, multicenter cohort study was performed in six tertiary centers in Saudi Arabia and included patients who received either C-T or CAZ-AVI for infections due to multidrug-resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa. Overall in-hospital mortality, 30-day mortality, and clinical cure were...

Patterns of thyroid tumors in Northern Saudi Arabia with a specific focus on CK19, CD56, and Galectin-3 tumor markers
CONCLUSIONS: Thyroid cancer is prevalent in northern Saudi Arabia, with the predominant type being papillary thyroid carcinoma. Most patients are female and younger. The combined use of CK19, CD56, and Galectin-3 tumor markers assists in the accurate differential diagnosis of thyroid neoplasms.PMID:37401303 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32805

Narrative Review of the Epidemiology of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries
AbstractHospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) are the most common healthcare-associated infections, with rates varying between countries. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among common HAP/VAP pathogens has been reported, and multidrug resistance (MDR) is of further concern across Middle Eastern countries. This narrative review summarizes the incidence and pathogens associated with HAP/VAP in hospitals across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. A PubMed literature search was limited to available data on HAP or VAP in patients of any age published within the past 10  years. Reviews,...
