Clinical outcomes of different revascularization approaches for patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease: A network meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: ONCABG shows a better rank probability compared to all other techniques for preventing TVR, while RCAB offers greater freedom from most postoperative complications. However, given the absence of randomized controlled trials, these results should be interpreted with caution.PMID:37294619 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231182585

Association between preoperative blood pressure and outcomes in cardiac surgery: results of a prospectively planned cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: High preoperative BP measured by ABP monitoring is a risk factor for postoperative complications in patients submitted to CABG.PMID:37255492 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.23.12581-X

Prosthesis Choice in Dialysis Patients Undergoing Mitral Valve Replacement
CONCLUSIONS: MVR in dialysis patients carries significant morbidity and increased mid-term mortality. Decreased life-expectancy should be considered in the tailoring of prosthesis choice to dialysis-dependent patients.PMID:37245789 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.05.015

Evaluation of the effect of sodium zirconium cyclosilicate on arrhythmia-related cardiovascular outcomes in patients receiving chronic haemodialysis with hyperkalaemia: protocol for the multicentre, randomised, controlled DIALIZE-Outcomes study
Introduction Patients with kidney failure receiving chronic haemodialysis have elevated risk of arrhythmias potentially increasing the likelihood of sudden cardiac death, stroke and hospitalisation. The DIALIZE study (NCT03303521) demonstrated that sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) was an efficacious and well-tolerated treatment for predialysis hyperkalaemia in patients undergoing haemodialysis. The DIALIZE-Outcomes study evaluates the effect of SZC on sudden cardiac death and arrhythmia-related cardiovascular outcomes in patients receiving chronic haemodialysis with recurrent hyperkalaemia. Methods and analysis Intern...

Aortic valve replacement in small aortic root- Bi-leaflet mechanical valve is superior to a Mono-leaflet mechanical valve
ConclusionWe conclude that aortic valve replacement without any root widening procedure, using a small-sized mechanical valve provides acceptable early outcomes. Bi-leaflet mechanical valves provide better hemodynamics and survival percentage.

Effect of sodium bicarbonate on cardiovascular outcome and mortality in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease
Conclusion: The cohort study found that in real world practice, among patients with advanced CKD stage V, use of sodium bicarbonate was associated with similar risk of dialysis compared with non-users, Nonetheless, use of sodium bicarbonate was associated with significantly lower rate of MACE and mortality. The study results reinforced the benefits of sodium bicarbonate therapy in the expanding CKD population. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Risk of hospital admission or emergency department presentation due to diabetes complications: a retrospective cohort study in Tasmania, Australia
ConclusionsOur results demonstrated the high demand on hospital services due to diabetes complications (especially macrovascular complications) and highlighted the importance of preventing and properly managing microvascular complications. These findings will support future resource allocation to reduce the increasing burden of diabetes in Australia.PMID:37137728 | DOI:10.1071/AH22271

Gender Difference of Blood Pressure Control Rate and Clinical Prognosis in Patients With Resistant Hypertension: Real-World Observation Study
CONCLUSION: In resistant hypertension, men were younger than women, but end-organ damage was more common and the risk of cardiovascular event was higher. More intensive cardiovascular prevention strategies may be required in male patients with resistant hypertension.PMID:37096308 | PMC:PMC10125792 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e124
