Glyoxal in hyperglycaemic ischemic stroke – a cohort study
Hyperglycaemia is frequent in acute ischemic stroke and denotes a bad prognosis, even in the absence of pre-existing diabetes. However, in clinical trials treatment of elevated glucose levels with insulin did ...

Association between triglyceride-glucose index and all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with ischemic stroke: analysis of the MIMIC-IV database
The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was significantly associated with insulin resistance (IR). Several studies have validated the effect of TyG index on cerebrovascular disease. However, the value of TyG inde...

Five-Year Changes in Inflammatory, Metabolic, and Oxidative Biomarkers and 10-Year Cardiovascular Disease Incidence: The REGICOR Cohort Study
Int J Mol Sci. 2023 Apr 27;24(9):7934. doi: 10.3390/ijms24097934.ABSTRACTIschemic cardiovascular diseases (CVD) originate from an imbalance between atherosclerotic plaque formation, instability, and endothelial healing dynamics. Our aim was to examine the relationship between 5-year changes in inflammatory, metabolic, and oxidative biomarkers and 10-year CVD incidence in a population without previous CVD. This was a prospective cohort study of individuals aged 35-74 years (n = 419) randomly selected from 5263 REGICOR participants without CVD recruited in 2005. Biomarkers were measured at baseline and in 2010. Participants ...

Triglyceride-glucose index, symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis and recurrence risk in minor stroke patients with hypertension
CONCLUSION: TyG is a significant risk factor for sICAS in hypertensive patients, and there is a synergistic effect of sICAS and higher TyG on ischemic stroke recurrence.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: The study was registered on 16 August 2019 at https://www.chictr.org.cn/showprojen.aspx?proj=41160 (No. ChiCTR1900025214).PMID:37076850 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01823-6

Triglyceride-glucose index and the incidence of stroke: A meta-analysis of cohort studies
CONCLUSION: A higher TyG index may be independently associated with a higher risk of stroke in individuals without stroke at baseline. The aforementioned findings need to be verified by a large-scale prospective cohort study to further clarify the underlying pathophysiological mechanism between the TyG index and stroke.PMID:36686534 | PMC:PMC9845890 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.1033385

The impact of triglyceride-glucose index on ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Strokes significantly impair quality of life and incur high economic and societal burdens. The triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index is a biochemical marker of insulin resistance (IR) and may have important val...

Insulin resistance in ischemic stroke: Mechanisms and therapeutic approaches
Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2022 Dec 15;13:1092431. doi: 10.3389/fendo.2022.1092431. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe pathological condition of insulin resistance prevents the neuroprotective effects of insulin. Numerous studies have demonstrated that insulin resistance, as an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke, accelerates the formation of thrombosis and promotes the development of atherosclerosis, both of which are major mechanisms of ischemic stroke. Additionally, insulin resistance negatively affects the prognosis of patients with ischemic stroke regardless of whether the patient has diabetes, but the mechanisms ...

Triglyceride-glucose index as a prognostic marker after ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack: a prospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: TyG index is associated with cervicocerebral atherosclerosis and the MACE risk after a stroke, suggesting the potential value of TyG index to optimize the risk stratification of stroke patients. Identification of immune cell infiltration and diagnostic biomarkers in unstable atherosclerotic plaques by integrated bioinformatics analysis and machine learning
CONCLUSION: M1 macrophages is an important cause of unstable plaque formation, and CD68, PAM, and IGFBP6 could be used as diagnostic markers to identify unstable plaques effectively.PMID:36211422 | PMC:PMC9537477 | DOI:10.3389/fimmu.2022.956078

Heterogeneity of outcomes within diabetic patients with atrial fibrillation on edoxaban: a sub-analysis from the ETNA-AF Europe registry
ConclusionsIn a real-world cohort of AF patients on edoxaban, diabetes requiring insulin therapy, rather than the presence of diabetes per se, appears to be an independent factor affecting the occurrence of thromboembolic events during follow-up. Regardless of the diabetes type, diabetic patients had a lower survival compared with those without diabetes.Graphical abstract

Fibronectin containing alternatively spliced extra domain A interacts at the central and c-terminal domain of Toll-like receptor-4
In conclusion, FN-EDA interacts and forms a stable complex through its "SPEDGIRELF" sequence at the central and C-terminal domain region of TLR4. The revelation of FN-EDA and TLR4 interacting sites may help design novel therapeutics for drug discovery research.PMID:35690624 | DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-13622-2
