Comparing Cardiovascular Outcomes and Costs of Perindopril-, Enalapril- or Losartan-Based Antihypertensive Regimens in South Africa: Real-World Medical Claims Database Analysis
CONCLUSION: In South African individuals with private health insurance, a perindopril-based antihypertensive regimen provided better clinical and cost outcomes compared with other regimens.PMID:37730949 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02641-8

Long-term exposure to ambient ozone and cardiovascular diseases: evidence from two national cohort studies in China
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term exposure to MDA8 O3 may increase the incidence of CVD. Therefore, the policies that control O3 and related precursors are persistently needed.PMID:37625570 | DOI:10.1016/j.jare.2023.08.010

Associations of polygenic inheritance of physical activity with aerobic fitness, cardiometabolic risk factors and diseases: the HUNT study
AbstractPhysical activity (PA), aerobic fitness, and cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) are highly heritable multifactorial phenotypes. Shared genetic factors may underlie the associations between higher levels of PA and better aerobic fitness and a lower risk for CMDs. We aimed to study how PA genotype associates with self-reported PA, aerobic fitness, cardiometabolic risk factors and diseases. PA genotype, which combined variation in over one million of gene variants, was composed using the SBayesR polygenic scoring methodology. First, we constructed a polygenic risk score for PA in the Tr øndelag Health Study (N = 47,1...

Unintended Consequences of Increased Out-of-Pocket Costs During Medicare Coverage Gap on Anticoagulant Discontinuation and Stroke
CONCLUSION: Increased OOP costs during Medicare coverage gap were associated with higher risk of DOAC discontinuation, which in turn was associated with higher risk of stroke and SE among beneficiaries with NVAF.PMID:37568060 | DOI:10.1007/s12325-023-02620-z

Hierarchical Development of Physical Frailty and Cognitive Impairment and Their Association With Incident Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSIONS: The simultaneous development of frailty and CI is associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes including death compared with the development of each syndrome alone. Diagnostics to detect frailty and CI are critical in assessment of cardiovascular risk in the older population.PMID:37538136 | PMC:PMC10399211 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacadv.2023.100318

What Is the Role of Transcarotid Artery Revascularization?
Adv Surg. 2023 Sep;57(1):115-140. doi: 10.1016/j.yasu.2023.04.010. Epub 2023 May 26.ABSTRACTCarotid endarterectomy (CEA) is the gold-standard method of carotid revascularization in symptomatic patients with ≥50% and in asymptomatic patients with ≥70% stenosis. Transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS) has been associated with higher perioperative stroke rates compared to CEA in several studies. On the other hand, transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) has outperformed TFCAS in patients who are considered high risk for surgery. There is increasing data that supports TCAR as a safe and efficient technique with o...
