Effects of exposure to air pollution on acute cardiovascular and respiratory admissions to the hospital and early mortality at emergency department
CONCLUSIONS: Air quality significantly affects the admissions to the ED for CV and Rp reasons and has an impact on mortality.PMID:35543202 | DOI:10.17219/acem/149400

Pathway-specific population attributable fractions
ConclusionPS-PAFs measure disease burden attributable to differing mediating pathways and can generate insights into the dominant mechanisms by which a risk factor affects disease at a population level.

Intraoperative and early postoperative risk factors of development of acute cerebrovascular accident after coronary artery bypass grafting in the elderly age.
Adv Gerontol. 2022;35(1):134-139.ABSTRACTThe article presents data on the problem of ischemic heart disease, surgical myocardial revascularization, as well as the risk of developing acute cerebrovascular accident (ACVA) in elderly patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The authors conducted a study to identify risk factors for the development of stroke in elderly patients. Predictors of ACVA development in the operational and early postoperative periods were identified. It has been proven that the time of extubation, an increase in PCO2 levels, and hyperlactatemia are reliable intraoperative and early postop...

Direct oral anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation and heart valve surgery-a meta-analysis and systematic review
CONCLUSION: Cumulative data analysis reveals that DOAC may provide an effective and safe alternative to VKA in patients with AF after surgically implanted bioprosthetic heart valves or repair with AF. Within a relatively heterogeneous study population, this meta-analysis shows a risk reduction of major bleedings and thromboembolic stroke or systemic embolisms for DOAC.PMID:35481366 | DOI:10.1177/17539447221093963

Exploring the shared experiences of people with stroke and caregivers in preparedness to manage post-discharge care: A hermeneutic study
CONCLUSIONS: Similarities and differences in perceived preparedness to manage post-discharge care existed between stroke dyadic members. A co-design approach to developing and implementing discharge plans would enhance planned post-discharge care.IMPACT: Hospital-to-home transition is a challenging time for people with stroke and their caregivers. Understanding the shared experiences of stroke dyads in preparedness for post-discharge care enables nurses to take proactive actions to enhance managing post-discharge care. Early identification of those at risk of developing psychological stress will enable nurses to co-develop...

Long-term exposure to ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and associations with cardiopulmonary diseases and lung cancer in Taiwan: a nationwide longitudinal cohort study
ConclusionsLong-term exposure to intermediate levels of ambient PM2.5 was associated with cardiopulmonary health outcomes. Our study adds value to future application and national burden of disease estimation in evaluating the health co-benefits from ambient air pollution reduction policy in Asian countries.

Effectiveness of caregiver-mediated exercise interventions on activities of daily living, anxiety and depression post-stroke rehabilitation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Caregiver-mediated exercise interventions appear to have beneficial impacts on basic ADL for stroke survivors, suggesting caregiver-mediated exercise interventions as a potentially feasible way to improve functional independence.IMPACT: Caregiver-mediated intervention with exercises as a major component could be a promising approach to augment stroke rehabilitation. Future research should include high-quality studies with focus on specific intervention components or to explore caregiver outcomes.PMID:35451521 | DOI:10.1111/jan.15239

Identifying factors contributing to increased susceptibility to COVID-19 risk: a systematic review of Mendelian randomization studies
ConclusionThis review summarizes modifiable factors for intervention (e.g. smoking, obesity and inflammatory factors) and proteomic signatures (e.g. OAS1 and IL-6) that could help identify drugs for treating COVID-19.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors and neurological disorders: a scoping review
Ther Adv Chronic Dis. 2022 Apr 11;13:20406223221086996. doi: 10.1177/20406223221086996. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are a group of antidiabetic medications with a favourable cardiovascular, renal and overall safety profile. Given the limited treatment options available for neurological disorders, it is important to determine whether the pleiotropic effects of SGLT2i can be utilised in their prevention and management.METHODS: All articles published before 20 March 2021 were systematically searched in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, APA PsycINFO and Clinica...

Trajectories of alcohol consumption up to 30 years before and after the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases: a longitudinal case-control study of 12 502 participants
Conclusions This is the first attempt to show how patients with CVD change their drinking volume over such a wide time span. Future research needs to establish insight into drinking behaviour in other ways (such as frequency and context) and address the impact of changes in drinking on patients with CVD.

Effects of nonsurgical, minimally or noninvasive therapies for urinary incontinence due to neurogenic bladder: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analyses found electrical stimulation to be beneficial for improving the symptoms of UUI among people with multiple sclerosis and those with stroke. Our review also revealed that TTNS and BT might improve QoL for people with NGB due to Parkinson's disease, although the effects of PFMT and BT on UUI warrant further investigation.PMID:35321402 | PMC:PMC8935404 | DOI:10.1177/20406223211063059
