Incidence and predictors of progression of carotid atherosclerosis in a low-income Chinese population-a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first longitudinal study to explore the incidence and predictors of CAS progression in a low-income rural population in China with a high prevalence of stroke. More detailed and precise strategies for prevention and intervention of CAS progression are necessary, especially in low-income rural areas in China.PMID:34696679 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1997483

Perceptions and knowledge gaps on CHA < sub > 2 < /sub > DS < sub > 2 < /sub > -VASc score components: a joint survey of Chinese clinicians and clinical pharmacists
CONCLUSIONS: Chinese medical professionals, especially EPs and GPs, revealed a lack of knowledge and insufficient skills for CHA2DS2-VASc scores and their components. Improvements in the awareness of the CHA2DS2-VASc score and its detailed scoring criteria are urgently needed for Chinese medical professionals. Therefore, education programs concerning the introduction of stroke risk evaluation for AF patients and the development of referencing scoring tools are necessary.PMID:34694951 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1996815

Renal dysfunction is associated with lower odds of home discharge for patients with stroke
CONCLUSION: The odds of home discharge for stroke patients decreased with a significant independent graded association with declining eGFR levels. Renal function could predict home discharge after stroke.PMID:34351833 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1964198

Sex-disparities in risk factors and atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients
Conclusion: Among diabetic people, compared to males, females had a higher comorbid burden but received less optimal treatment, which might partly explain their higher prevalence of composite ASCVD and CHD.PMID:33874831 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1917930

Factors associated with prognosis after small-vessel occlusion among young and middle-aged patients: a hospital-based follow-up study
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that small-vessel occlusions cause the heaviest disease burden in patients aged 45 to 55 years. To reduce stroke recurrence, young and middle-aged patients with small-vessel occlusions should control their fasting plasma glucose levels and manage their weight.PMID:33866924 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2021.1917250

Sex- related differences in the factors associated with outcomes among patients with strokes of undetermined source: a hospital-based follow-up study.
CONCLUSION: The factors associated with outcomes in SUS differed by sex. For male patients, more severe stroke and hyperlipidemia were associated with poor outcomes in SUS. Risk factors for poor outcomes in female patients were stroke severity, age, and TC level. These findings suggest that taking measures to manage blood lipid levels and severe stroke among patients with SUS are important for both male and female patients and are crucial for reducing the burden of stroke in China.
