Updates in the diagnosis and management of Takayasu's arteritis
This article aims to describe to the reader key features of Takayasu's arteritis and highlights updated evidence in the diagnosis and management of these patients. We also review the 2021 ACR guidelines for Takayasu's arteritis and correlate them to the updated evidence discussed throughout the review. An extensive literature search was conducted via PUBMED, including the words 'Takayasu's diagnostic criteria,' 'Takayasu's treatment,' 'Takayasu's diagnosis,' 'Takayasu's imaging', and 'Takayasu's diagnostic criteria.' Association between hypertension and stroke in US adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2007 to 2018
CONCLUSION: Our results show that there is a significant positive correlation between BP and stroke. When the systolic blood pressure (SBP) is about 140 mmHg, the risk of stroke is the lowest; Male patients with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of about 80mmHg have a lower risk of stroke.PMID:36260517 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2022.2138470

Usefulness of Triglyceride-glucose index for detecting prevalent atrial fibrillation in a type 2 diabetic population
CONCLUSION: Our data supported a linear and robust correlation between TyG and the prevalent AF in a diabetic population. Moreover, our results implicated the potential usefulness of TyG to refine the detection of prevalent AF in a diabetic population.PMID:36093727 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2022.2124088

LDL-C target attainment in secondary prevention of ASCVD in the United States: barriers, consequences of nonachievement, and strategies to reach goals
Postgrad Med. 2022 Aug 25. doi: 10.1080/00325481.2022.2117498. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a major causal risk factor for ASCVD. Current evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that lowering LDL-C reduces the risk of secondary cardiovascular events in patients with previous myocardial infarction or stroke. There is no lower limit for LDL-C: large, randomized studies and meta-analyses have found continuous benefit and no safety concerns in patients achieving LDL-C levels &...
