Protein kinase D2 confers neuroprotection by promoting AKT and CREB activation in ischemic stroke
In this study, we found that PKD2 expression and activity were significantly upregulated in the ipsilateral side of the brain after transient focal cerebral ischemia, which coincides with the upregulation of PKD2 in primary neurons in response to in vitro ischemia, implying a potential role of PKD2 in neuronal survival in ischemic stroke. Mediterranean-style diet and intracranial large artery stenosis in the Northern Manhattan Study
Intracranial large artery stenosis (ICAS) is one of the most common causes of stroke worldwide.1 Among stroke-free community-dwelling adults, ICAS is prevalent, associated with modifiable vascular risk factors, and confers risk of incident vascular events.2 Given prior work linking a Mediterranean-style diet (MeDi), which is rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grains, legumes, and nuts, to reduced risk of vascular conditions and cardiovascular events,3,4 we hypothesized MeDi may also be protective against ICAS.

Gait analysis patterns and rehabilitative interventions to improve gait in persons with hereditary spastic paraplegia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionKnee hyperextension, non-sagittal pelvic movements, and reduced ROM at the knee, ankle, and hip represent the most peculiar patterns in HSP, compared to diplegic cerebral palsy and stroke. Botulinum improved comfortable gait velocity after 2 months. Nonetheless, interventions reducing spasticity might result in ineffective functional outcomes unveiling weakness. Intensive active physical therapy and FES might improve gait velocity in the very short term.

Cerebral artery signal intensity gradient from Time-of-Flight Magnetic Resonance Angiography and clinical outcome in lenticulostriate infarction: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionCerebral artery SIG from TOF-MRA was significantly associated with short-term functional outcomes in patients with lenticulostriate infarction. Further studies are needed to investigate the temporal relationships of SIG in patients with cerebral infarction.

Before juvenile stroke can be attributed to MYH11 variants, alternative etiologies and pathophysiologies must be adequately ruled out
We read with interest the article by Raghuram et  al. on a 12 year-old female who developed severe ischemic stroke (NIHSS 16) due to right proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion [1]. Despite thrombolysis and thrombectomy, the patient's recovery was incomplete [1]. The cause of the occlusion was attributed to a focal dissection of the MCA due to the variant IVS32G>A in MYH11, which was also found in the maternal grandmother, mother, older sister, and a maternal cousin, two of whom had aortic dissection in the past [1].

Case report: Retrograde endovascular recanalization of vertebral artery occlusion with non-tapered stump via the deep cervical collateral
ConclusionAntegrade endovascular recanalization of VA occlusion with a non-tapered stump is a challenge. The retrograde endovascular method via the cervical collateral may be an alternative for this type of VA occlusion, which requires further exploration.

CONCLUSION: The exact gustatory pathway in humans remains uncertain nowadays. First, there were few reports about dysgeusia, which might be related to clinical neglect of taste deficits. Second, our knowledge of the human gustatory pathway depends solely on sporadic cases of taste-involved brain lesions. We reported a case of bilateral hypogeusia after right thalamic infarction.
