Unplanned readmission after carotid stenting versus endarterectomy: analysis of the United States Nationwide Readmissions Database
Conclusions Readmission is not uncommon after carotid revascularization, occurs more often after CAS, and is predicted by baseline factors and by preventable adverse events at initial admission.

Validation of Carotid Artery Revascularization Coding in Ontario Health Administrative Databases.
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis demonstrated that the codes used in administrative databases accurately identify CEA and CAS-treated patients. Researchers can confidently use administrative data to conduct population-based studies of CEA and CAS. PMID: 27040863 [PubMed - in process]

Hospital costs of ischemic stroke and TIA in the Netherlands
Conclusions: Hospital costs are higher for inpatients and ischemic strokes compared with outpatients and TIAs, with length of stay (LOS) the most important contributor. LOS and hospital costs have substantially declined over the last 10 years, possibly due to improved hospital stroke care and efficient integrated stroke services.
