Prognostic factors of long-term survival to guide selection of asymptomatic patients for carotid endarterectomy.
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of one or more prognostic factors as well as the various risk prediction models can guide selection of ACS patient subgroups for which a prophylactic CEA should or should not be offered. Decisions to offer prophylactic CEA should weigh in factors like surgeon's experience and hospital expertise/volume. Asymptomatic patients not expected to live long enough to benefit from the procedure should not be considered for CEA, but should be offered best medical treatment. Remote pre-procedural ischemic stroke was the strongest risk for stroke and death associated with carotid stenting. A single center experience.
CONCLUSIONS: In our experience all patients with remote pre-procedural any territory ischemic stroke belong to risky subgroup for periprocedural stroke death after CAS. All asymptomatic patients with remote ischemic stroke should not be treated with CAS. Remote ischemic stroke increases all-cause mortality in long-term follow-up after carotid stenting. Patients ≥ 75 years also have increased risk of periprocedural stroke and death after CAS. These factors should help us to be more selective when planning carotid procedures. Circulating Chemerin Is Associated With Carotid Plaque Instability, Whereas Resistin Is Related to Cerebrovascular Symptomatology.
CONCLUSIONS: Low chemerin and high resistin levels were associated with carotid disease severity, suggesting that these adipokines may act as potential markers for plaque instability and stroke risk. Future studies are needed to assess causation between circulating adipokines and plaque instability. PMID: 27312219 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Simultaneous coronary and carotid revascularisation
Conclusion According to our experiences and results, the simultaneous performance of CEA and CABG in patients with severe coexisting carotid artery disease who require coronary revascularization has proved to be a safe and efficacious operative strategy in these high-risk patients.

Early cardiovascular events in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus
Conclusions: A history of GDM was identified as a risk factor of CVD, especially coronary vascular diseases, within the 7 years postpartum. A lifestyle changes from postpartum onwards can be recommended and supported.

Clinical Prediction Model Suitable for Assessing Hospital Quality for Patients Undergoing Carotid Endarterectomy Stroke
Conclusions The NCDR CEA score, comprising 7 clinical variables, predicts in-hospital stroke or death after CEA. This model can be used to estimate hospital risk-adjusted outcomes for CEA and to assist with the assessment of hospital quality.
