Prevalence and impact of carotid disease in adult Saudi patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass surgery on early postoperative outcome
The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of carotid disease in our Saudi population undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery and to determine its impact on stroke and early postoperative outcome. A total of 3197 consecutive adult patients underwent major cardiac surgery in our center between January 2002 and December 2012. Low cardiac output as physiological phenomenon in hibernating, free-ranging scandinavian brown bears (Ursus arctos) - an observational study
Background:
Despite 5-7 months of physical inactivity during hibernation, brown bears (Ursus arctos) are able to cope with physiological conditions that would be detrimental to humans. During hibernation, the tissue metabolic demands fall to 25% of the active state. Effects of Short-Term Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on Myocardial Sympathetic Nerve Function and Energetics in Patients with Heart Failure and Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Randomized Study.
CONCLUSIONS: -In patients with HFrEF and OSA, short-term CPAP increased HED retention, indicating improved myocardial SN function, but overall did not affect energetics. In those with more severe OSA, CPAP may improve cardiac efficiency. Further outcome-based investigation of the consequences of CPAP is warranted. Conclusion: AF is tough to diagnose since it is often asymptomatic and clinicians need many tests to confirm diagnosis. Lack of documentation or detection of AF and its associated conditions is a concern. AF can lead to life threatening problems such as stroke and heart failure. The surveillance of AF in India is important in order to identify opportunities for intervention. Continued data collection through the use of a cardiovascular registry can improve the understanding of AF in India.

Routine serum C‐reactive protein and stroke outcome after intravenous thrombolysis
ConclusionsAccording to our findings, elevated routine serum CRP measured within 24 h after admission does not seem to independently affect the outcome in patients receiving intravenous thrombolysis for stroke. However, further studies of blood samples taken directly before the treatment are needed.

Falls and comorbidity: The pathway to fractures.

Safety of IV thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke related to Chagas disease
Conclusion:
In the largest published series of patients with CD-related stroke treated with IV TPA, we have observed that IV thrombolysis was safely performed and showed no increase of SIH. The diagnosis of CD should not preclude IV thrombolysis in these patients.

Interventional Cryoablation Therapy of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in Young Patients With Low CHADS 2 Score Worth the Risk of Periprocedural and Long-Term Adverse Events?
In this study the long-term effectiveness in the cryoablation group was reported as 69.9% after 12 months, with a mean fluoroscopy exposure time of 63 min. Regarding the adverse events during follow-up, only 1 adverse event (1.2%) occurred in the drug therapy arm (transfusion because of hemorrhage) compared with 32 adverse events (14.2%) in the cryoablation group, not regarding the 24 patients who suffered temporary phrenic nerve palsy.
