Timeline of blood pressure changes after intra-arterial therapy for acute ischemic stroke based on recanalization status
Conclusions SBP falls significantly in patients with AIS with large vessel occlusion who recanalize with IAT. While SBP in non-recanalized patients also drops from baseline, it occurs to a lesser degree and stays higher only for a short period of time before falling to similar levels as in recanalized patients.

E-008 Clinical and Radiographic Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patient who Presented with Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion-A Single Center Experience
Conclusions Solitaire retrieval device achieves a very high rate of recanalazitation in acute ischemic stroke with MCA occlusion and results in a good clinical outcome. However, a considerable valuable time is still lost from ER arrival to IR arrival. Patients who required endotracheal intubation at presentation and or had NIHSS 20 or higher are associated with poor outcome despite TICI3 recanalization. Further studied are required. Disclosures Y. Massive Epistaxis from Internal Carotid Pseudoaneurysm during Acute Ischemic Stroke in a Patient with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Carotid blowout syndrome in NPC patients during acute ischemic stroke warrants further cervical angiographic study. Endovascular treatment provides immediate hemostasis and obliteration of ICA pseudoaneurysm. PMID: 26077184 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Extracranial Carotid Artery Disease: Risk Factors and Outcomes in Patients With Acute Critical Hemispheric Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions— Occlusive carotid artery disease is not uncommon among Chinese patients who have had an acute critical hemispheric infarction. Older age is the factor most significantly correlated with a poor outcome, and occlusive carotid disease is the factor most significantly correlated with death.

Improving mechanical thrombectomy time metrics in the angiography suite: Stroke cart, parallel workflows, and conscious sedation.
Conclusions Use of a stroke cart, parallel workflows by neurointerventionalists, technologists, and nursing staff, and use of conscious sedation may be useful to other institutions in efforts to improve procedural times. PMID: 29145742 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Different utilization of intensive care services (ICSs) for patients dying of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, a hospital-based survey
In this study, CI patients had a longer HSD (mean 14.3 days), as compared with ICH patients (mean 8.3 days); however, the ICH patients had a higher percentage of early entry within the first 24 hours of admission into ICS than CI group (95.1% vs 60.0%, P = .003). A higher rate of CI patients died in holidays or weekends than those with ICH (44.0% vs 21.4%, P = .051). DNR, requested mainly from direct descendants (children or grandchildren), was coded in all 25 CI patients (100.0%) and 38 ICH patients (90.5%). More cases with early DNR coded within 24 hours after admission occurred in ICH group (47%, 12% in CI p...

An exploratory descriptive cohort study of 90-day prognosis after acute ischaemic stroke with mechanical thrombectomy
CONCLUSION: Almost half of the surviving patients had a poor prognosis. In our country, this surgery and rehabilitation impose a significant financial burden that needs to be addressed. However, the longer length of hospital stay and higher costs at discharge may be contributing factors to worse outcomes. The outcomes of comprehensive nursing assessment of the patients, including nursing needs, activities of daily living, and neurological function, can predict their outcome.IMPACT STATEMENT: We recommend a comprehensive nursing assessment at discharge that predicts patient outcomes and can be used for subsequent targeted i...

The impact of intra-abdominal pressure on the stroke volume variation and plethysmographic variability index in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Authors: Liu F, Zhu S, Ji Q, Li W, Liu J Abstract The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of increasing intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) on stroke volume variation (SVV) and plethysmographic variability index (PVI) in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. PVI examined by Masimo Radical 7 pulse oximeter and SVV determined using FloTrac/Vigileo were monitored simultaneously in forty-five patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Mean arterial blood pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), cardiac index (CI), perfusion index (PI), airway pressures (P), SVV, and PVI were also recorded...

Role of emergent chest radiography in evaluation of hyperacute stroke
Conclusions: Performance of CXR prior to IV thrombolytics prolongs door-to-needle time in acute ischemic stroke patients. CXR before treatment should be reserved for situations wherein acute cardiopulmonary conditions would otherwise preclude the administration of IV thrombolytics or substantially influence management.

Predictors for Tracheostomy with External Validation of the Stroke-Related Early Tracheostomy Score (SETscore)
ConclusionsSETscore is a simple score with a moderate accuracy and with a fair AUC used to predict the need for TR after MV for IS, ICH, and SAH patients. Our study also demonstrates that early TR was associated with a lower ICU LOS and VD in our cohort. The utility of this score may be improved when including additional variables such as BMI, AA race, ICH, and positive sputum cultures.
