Comparison of Direct Oral Anticoagulants and Warfarin in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and an Aortic Bioprosthetic Valve
CONCLUSIONS: Among AF patients with an aortic BPV, no significant difference was observed in the composite outcome of adverse clinical events between patients treated with warfarin and those treated with DOACs, suggesting that DOACs can be used as alternatives to warfarin in these patients.PMID:35811134 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-22-0226

Periprocedural and long-term safety and feasibility of direct oral anticoagulants in patients with biological valve undergoing radiofrequency catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation: a prospective multicenter study
ConclusionPeriprocedural and long-term administration of DOACs in patients with biological cardiac valves undergoing AF ablation appears as safe as warfarin therapy.

Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma in an Adult Patient with Complex Congenital Heart Disease
We report the case of a 27-year-old man who developed sudden upper back pain with no specific precipitant. Five days later, he visited our emergency department complaining of weakness in both lower limbs and dysuria. He had a history of intracardiac repair and a Blalock-Park procedure for an interrupted aortic arch and ventricular septal defect in infancy. Additionally, he had undergone an aortic root dilatation and aortic valve replacement at the age of 10 because of progression of aortic and supra-aortic stenosis and had received chronic anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy with warfarin and aspirin, respectively. An...

Rationale, Design, and Baseline Characteristics of the BioProsthetic Valves with Atrial Fibrillation (BPV-AF) Study
ConclusionPatients enrolled into this study are typical of the wider Japanese AF/BPV population in terms of age and clinical history. Future data accruing from the observational period will contribute to future treatment recommendations and guide therapeutic decisions in patients with BPV and AF.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: UMIN000034485

Novel oral anticoagulant vs. warfarin in elderly atrial fibrillation patients with normal, mid ‐range, and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
ConclusionsIn elderly AF patients ≥65 years, using NOAC was associated with lower IS/SE compared with warfarin in normal and mid‐range LVEF but not in reduced LVEF. Using NOACs was associated with lower death compared with warfarin in normal LVEF.
