Effects of Tetramethylpyrazine on Functional Recovery and Neuronal Dendritic Plasticity after Experimental Stroke.
Authors: Lin JB, Zheng CJ, Zhang X, Chen J, Liao WJ, Wan Q Abstract The 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) has been widely used in the treatment of ischemic stroke by Chinese doctors. Here, we report the effects of TMP on functional recovery and dendritic plasticity after ischemic stroke. A classical model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was established in this study. The rats were assigned into 3 groups: sham group (sham operated rats treated with saline), model group (MCAO rats treated with saline) and TMP group (MCAO rats treated with 20 mg/kg/d TMP). The neurological function test of animals was eva...

Effects of Lower-Leg Kinesiology Taping on Balance Ability in Stroke Patients with Foot Drop.
Conclusion. Kinesiology taping temporarily improved static balance ability in stroke patients. However, its effect on dynamic balance was not verified. Therefore, further research on the influence of long-term kinesiology taping on dynamic balance and gait ability is suggested. PMID: 26579200 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Contra-lateral needling in the treatment of hemiplegia due to acute ischemic stroke.
Authors: Gao H, Gao X, Liang G, Ma BX Abstract Contra-lateral Needling, a traditional acupuncture technique, means contra-lateral acupuncture by inserting needles into acupoints on the relative healthy side of the body opposite to the injured side to treat diseases such as apoplexy with high efficacy. However, there are not many well-designed and controlled clinical evidences found in the literature. Therefore the present study was designed to assess its therapeutic responses in the treatment of hemiplegia due to acute ischemic stroke. A clinical study was conducted with randomly selected 106 patients who have acut...

Acupuncture for the treatment of hiccups following stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Our systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for patients suffering from hiccups following stroke when used as an adjunct to medical treatment. However, due to the limited number of RCTs and poor methodology quality, we cannot reach a definitive conclusion, hence further large, rigorously designed trials are needed. How To Lower Risk of Heart Disease and Stroke
Italy's Emma Morano will be celebrating her 117th birthday at the end of this month. She's the oldest living person in the world. And when she was asked what her secret to longevity was, she didn't miss a beat. Her answer? She eats two or three eggs every day.  I'm not at all surprised by Emma's long, healthy life. People thrived on eggs for millions of years. The Myth of Eggs and Cholesterol That is, until the 1950s, when they came under attack because they're high in cholesterol. Around that time, cholesterol was blamed for causing heart disease. And we now know that's not true. Choleste...
