Satisfaction With Palliative Care After Stroke: A Prospective Cohort Study Brief Reports
Conclusions— Families of patients receiving palliative care at our institution showed generally high satisfaction with palliation after stroke; specific domains were identified for improvement. Further study in larger populations is required.

Route of Feeding as a Proxy for Dysphagia After Stroke and the Effect of Transdermal Glyceryl Trinitrate: Data from the Efficacy of Nitric Oxide in Stroke Randomised Controlled Trial
AbstractPost-stroke dysphagia is common, associated with poor outcome and often requires non-oral feeding/fluids. The relationship between route of feeding and outcome, as well as treatment with glyceryl trinitrate(GTN), was studied prospectively. The Efficacy of Nitric Oxide in Stroke (ENOS) trial assessed transdermal GTN (5  mg versus none for 7 days) in 4011 patients with acute stroke and high blood pressure. Feeding route (oral = normal or soft diet; non-oral = nasogastric tube, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube, parenteral fluids, no fluids) was assessed at baseline and day 7. The primary outcome was the mo d...

Clinical nutrition and gastrointestinal dysfunction in critically ill stroke patients.
Conclusions For the first time, this study investigated the prevalence of AGIM in patients suffering from severe stroke. The prevalence of disturbed gastrointestinal function was found to be high in stroke patients, but was lower than in a group of non-stroke patients with similar general disease severity and baseline characteristics. Dysbiosis of Gut Microbiota and Short-Chain Fatty Acids in Acute Ischemic Stroke and the Subsequent Risk for Poor Functional Outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: Dysbiosis of SCFAs-producing bacteria and SCFAs in AIS patients increased the subsequent risk for poor functional outcomes, indicating that SCFAs could be potential prognostic markers and therapeutic targets for stroke. PMID: 32473086 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Indirect Calorimetry Measurements Compared to Guideline Weight-Based Caloric Calculations in Critically Ill Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSION: Important differences between weight based estimation of caloric needs and guidelines recommended IC estimation exist in critically ill stroke patients. Low weight-based calculations of REE underestimate caloric needs in ICH and SAH patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Nomogram for predicting swallowing recovery in patients after dysphagic stroke
CONCLUSION: These novel nomograms predicting dysphagia recovery after ischemic stroke are discriminative and well calibrated and could be used to guide enteral nutrition decision-making, rehabilitation plans, and individualized care.
