Prevalence and Treatment Characteristics of Spastic Hypertonia on First-Time Admission to Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation
Conclusions Spasticity is a common sequela of upper motor neuron injury for patients admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. Early recognition and management are essential to prevent contractures, minimize pain, and maximize functional recovery.

Early diagnosis of heterotopic ossification among patients admitted to a neurological post intensive care rehabilitation unit.
CONCLUSIONS: HO is a sub-acute complication which develops in patients admitted to ICU for severe central nervous system disorders as clinical suspicion or radiological confirmation of diagnosis was made within the first week after admission in neurological PICRU (i.e. 6 to 8 weeks after ICU admission). CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: As treatment for HO may at least partially improves rehabilitation and quality of life, we recommend a systematic screening in PICRU patients for HO by clinical examination supplemented by imaging in case of suspicion. Effect of kinesio taping on hemiplegic shoulder pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests a beneficial effect of kinesio taping for reducing shoulder subluxation, improving motor function of the upper limb and activities of daily living in patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain post-intervention, which could not be interpreted simply as a placebo effect. The effects of hemiplegic shoulder pain on upper extremity motor function and proprioception.
CONCLUSIONS: Presence of HSP is one of the main determinators of upper extremity motor function level and proprioceptive ability at different angles. Management of HSP can make a significant contribution to sensorimotor integration by leading to recovery in the motor function and proprioceptive acuity. Prevalence of upper-limb spasticity and its impact on care among nursing home residents with prior stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: A high proportion (70%) of nursing home residents with stroke demonstrated upper-limb spasticity, associated with pain and passive care difficulties. These data suggest there is an unmet need for spasticity management among nursing-home residents. The three-dimensional shoulder pain alignment (3D-SPA) mobilization improves pain-free shoulder range, functional reach and sleep following stroke: a pilot randomized control trial.
CONCLUSIONS: The Three-Dimensional Shoulder Pain Alignment mobilization protocol significantly improved pain-free range of motion, functional reach and pain during sleep in shoulders with moderate/severe post-stroke upper-extremity impairment. Electrical Stimulation in the Treatment of Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Conclusions Electrical stimulation may be an effective pain management methodology for hemiplegic shoulders and may contribute to pain-free range of external rotation as well as activities of daily living recovery. Passive accessory joint mobilization in the multimodal management of chronic dysesthesia following thalamic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Manual therapy may be a beneficial intervention in management of thalamic stroke-related dysesthesia. Implications for Rehabilitation While pain is common following thalamic stroke, patients may present with chronic paresthesia or dysesthesia, often in a hemisensory distribution. Passive movement may promote inhibition of hyperexcitable cortical pathways, which may diminish aberrant sensations. Upper-limb sensory impairments after stroke: Self-reported experiences of daily life and rehabilitation.

BYMTOX: An observational study to consider the association of botulinum toxin and self-management program by serious game for post-stroke patients at the chronic phase
Discussion – conclusion Despite encouraging outcomes, high rate of withdrawal makes us wonder about program's relevance, regarding intensity and patients’ profile. Concerning patients who left the program, initial mobility was 47% lower than for those who finished the study. As 4 patients in booklet group and 6 in serious game group have finished and regarding results, it may do not question the interest of this new medium. Obviously, further studies must be conduct.

Practice patterns for spasticity management with phenol neurolysis.
CONCLUSION: Phenol neurolysis is currently used to reduce spasticity for various functional goals, including preventing contractures and improving gait. Depending on the pattern of spasticity displayed, numerous peripheral nerves in the upper and lower extremities can be targeted for treatment with phenol neurolysis. Further research into its role in spasticity management, including studies exploring its cost-effectiveness and pharmacological and side-effects compared with other treatment options are needed.
