Impact of Switching From Prasugrel to Clopidogrel Shortly After a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Without a Loading Dose of Clopidogrel.
CONCLUSIONS: In this small, retrospective analysis, the results of loading patients with prasugrel for PCI and switching them to clopidogrel without a loading dose appear to be encouraging. PMID: 26378415 [PubMed - in process]

LDL and Systolic Blood Pressure Are Associated with Coated-Platelet Levels in Patients with Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis (P1.235)
Conclusions: In asymptomatic patients with carotid atherosclerosis, higher LDL and lower SBP were associated with increased coated-platelet levels. The relationship between LDL and coated-platelet levels is consistent with the recognized role of hypercholesterolemia in cardiovascular disease. The significance of the association between lower SBP and higher coated-platelet levels is less clear. These findings should be confirmed in prospective studies. Prasugrel Use in Real Life: A Report From the Outpatient Setting in France
The objective of this study was to provide descriptive statistics on patterns of prasugrel usage in the outpatient setting in France. This retrospective study was conducted to describe treatment patterns for prasugrel in the outpatient setting in France using the Intercontinental Marketing Services (IMS) Disease Analyzer database, which collates electronic medical records updated by a nationally representative database of 1200 French general practitioners (GPs). Anonymous data were collected prospectively at each follow‐up visit. The study population consisted of patients with ≥1 prescription for prasugrel in the outpa...

Identification of unique venous thromboembolism-susceptibility variants in African-Americans.
Abstract To identify novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE) in African-Americans (AAs), we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of VTE in AAs using the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network, comprised of seven sites each with DNA biobanks (total ~39,200 unique DNA samples) with genome-wide SNP data (imputed to 1000 Genomes Project cosmopolitan reference panel) and linked to electronic health records (EHRs). Using a validated EHR-driven phenotype extraction algorithm, we identified VTE cases and controls and tested for an association ...

Adult simulation and demonstration of nurse competency with neurological assessment
Nurses work in challenging environments and vast amounts of information are shared on a continual basis. Changes in health care and bedside nursing are constant which make maintaining competency in this dynamic environment challenging. In addition, as documentation has transitioned to electronic medical records, new challenges have been created. The purpose of this paper is to describe an educational intervention using a live standardized patient (actor) simulation with staff nurses that care for patients after a stroke or carotid intervention.

Abstract 150: Machine Learning Methodology Predicts Comorbidities are Associated With Increased Total Healthcare Costs Among Patients With Severe Peripheral Artery Disease Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: In this study, the presence of chronic ulcers in the lower extremities and CKD were two factors most predictive of increased all-cause total HC in a geographically diverse population of severe PAD patients.

Ambient Temperature and Stillbirth: A Multi-Center Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Extremes of local ambient temperature may have chronic and acute effects on stillbirth risk, even in temperate zones. Temperature-related effects on pregnancy outcomes merit additional investigation. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP945 Received: 09 August 2016 Revised: 06 December 2016 Accepted: 22 December 2016 Published: 22 June 2017 Address correspondence to P. CHADS2 and modified CHA2DS2-VASc scores for the prediction of congestive heart failure in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation
Conclusion Calculation of the CHADS2 and mCHA2DS2-VASc scores in order to evaluate the risk of systemic thromboembolism was useful to predict the onset of CHF, but not all-cause death, in patients with NVAF.

Depression in type 1 diabetes and risk of dementia.
CONCLUSIONS: For people with T1D, depression significantly increases dementia risk. Given the pervasiveness of depression in T1D, this has major implications for successful aging in this population recently living to old age. PMID: 29634288 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Interdisciplinary Models for Research and Clinical Endeavors in Genomic Medicine: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association AHA Scientific Statement
The completion of the Human Genome Project has unleashed a wealth of human genomics information, but it remains unclear how best to implement this information for the benefit of patients. The standard approach of biomedical research, with researchers pursuing advances in knowledge in the laboratory and, separately, clinicians translating research findings into the clinic as much as decades later, will need to give way to new interdisciplinary models for research in genomic medicine. These models should include scientists and clinicians actively working as teams to study patients and populations recruited in clinical settin...
