Failure of Therapeutic Anticoagulation in COVID-19 Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke. A Retrospective Multicenter Study
ConclusionsThe occurrence of an anticoagulation failure seems to be increased in the setting of COVID-19 infection, with worse clinical outcomes if compared to non-COVID-19 related ischemic strokes. We discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic implications of such evidence, suggesting that some arterial thrombotic complications might be either resistant to or independent of the anticoagulation effect.

Malignant Cerebral Ischemia in A COVID-19 Infected Patient: Case Review and Histopathological Findings
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is responsible for an unprecedented worldwide pandemic that has severely impacted the United States. As the pandemic continues, a growing body of evidence suggests that infected patients may develop significant coagulopathy with resultant thromboembolic complications including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke. However, this data is limited and comes from recent small case series and observational studies on stroke types, mechanisms, and outcomes.

The pulmonary manifestations of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection or coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are well known. The literature on neurological manifestations and complications in patients with COVID-19 has been increasing but is still sparse. At present, there are only a few reported case reports and clinical studies on neurological manifestations of COVID-19, of which ischemic stroke is one of the most common ones. Coagulopathy and vascular endothelial dysfunction have been proposed as the complications of COVID-19 which can ultimately lead to ischemic stroke.

Discontinuation of botulinum neurotoxin type-A treatment during COVID-19 pandemic: an Italian survey in post stroke and traumatic brain injury patients living with spasticity.
CONCLUSIONS: The discontinuation of BoNT-A treatment was associated with worsening of activities and participation and perceived spasticity. COVID-19 related problems and rehabilitation showed an association with loss of independence. Characteristics and outcomes of 100 consecutive patients with acute stroke and COVID-19
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic started as a respiratory illness. Now, there are increasing reports of its hypercoagulable and thrombotic complications [1] leading to stroke [2,3]. Initial studies suggested strokes to be a feature of severe and late COVID-19 [2,4]; usually occurring in the second week of illness after the onset of typical respiratory symptoms [4]. Recent studies identified these even in mild to moderate infection [5,6]. A recent meta-analysis also noted that 24.5% of patients with stroke symptoms did not experience any of the other typical COVID- 19 symptoms [6].
