Localized Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Defects and Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Localized RNFLDs showed a strong association with previous or acute cerebrovascular stroke and vice versa after adjustment for other systemic and ocular factors. Localized RNFLDs that can be assessed by noninvasive optical coherence tomographic imaging may be added to the panoply of retinal morphological features of stroke.

Factors Predicting High Estimated 10-Year Stroke Risk: Thai Epidemiologic Stroke Study
Conclusions: Socioeconomic status, in particular, unemployed/house work and illiterate class, might be good proxy to identify the individuals at higher risk of stroke. The most powerful risk factors were older age, male sex, diabetes mellitus, systolic blood pressure, and current smoking.

Frequency and Determinants of Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stroke in Urban Pakistan
Conclusions: ICAD accounted for one fifth of all strokes making it the most common ischemic stroke mechanism. In addition to aggressive risk factor control, data also indicated broader holistic efforts on ameliorating inequity, unemployment, and stress reduction to reduce stroke because of ICAD.

Long-term disability after lacunar stroke: Secondary prevention of small subcortical strokes
Conclusions: In lacunar stroke patients, older age was associated with worsening long-term disability, even without recurrence. Worse long-term function was associated with diabetes, cognitive status, and prior stroke, and regional differences may be attributable to variations in health care delivery or scale interpretation.

General medical skills on neurology and stroke wards
This study looks at the difference in the general medical care required in neurology and stroke units and the different skill set required. Methods Prospective data regarding diagnosis and medical complications were collected from 100 patients admitted to a neurology and a stroke ward. Results Stroke unit patients were older (mean age 71.4 yrs; standard deviation 16.3) than those on the neurology ward (47.9;16.8, p=<0.001). Herpes zoster as a risk factor for stroke and TIA: A retrospective cohort study in the UK
Conclusion: HZ is an independent risk factor for vascular disease in the UK population, particularly for stroke, TIA, and MI in subjects affected before the age of 40 years. In older subjects, better ascertainment of vascular risk factors and earlier intervention may explain the reduction in risk of stroke after the occurrence of HZ.
