Does stroke etiology influence outcome in the posterior circulation? An analysis of 107 consecutive acute basilar occlusion thrombectomies
CONCLUSIONS: In the current study, demographic and clinical results for acute BAO showed that compared with intrinsic disease, thromboembolic disease is a more common mechanism of acute BAO, with 78% of patients undergoing thrombectomy alone. However, there was no significant difference in revascularization and outcome results between patients with embolic disease and those with intrinsic disease.PMID:34198247 | DOI:10.3171/2021.4.FOCUS2189

Direct thrombectomy versus bridging thrombolysis with mechanical thrombectomy in middle cerebral artery stroke: a real-world analysis through National Inpatient Sample data
CONCLUSIONS: In the analysis of the NIS database, the MT+IVT group had significantly higher rates of minimal disability at the time of hospital discharge versus the MT-alone group, despite a higher rate of ICH. The question of whether to treat patients with MT+IVT rather than MT alone is currently being addressed in ongoing prospective clinical trials (SWIFT-DIRECT [NCT03494920], MR CLEAN-NO IV [ISRCTN80619088], and DIRECT-SAFE [NCT03494920]). The results of these studies will contribute to greater understanding and progressive improvement in outcomes for AIS patients.PMID:34198246 | DOI:10.3171/2021.4.FOCUS21132

Types of intraparenchymal hematoma as a predictor after revascularization in patients with anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Parenchymal hematoma was a predictor of poor outcomes. In particular, the absence of the anterior communicating artery on pre procedural time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography is a potential risk factor for parenchymal hematoma after revascularization for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke.PMID:33880207 | PMC:PMC8053447 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_792_2020
