Evaluation of Left Atrial (LA) Metrics in Cardioembolic Stroke Patients According to Burden of Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
This study aimed to evaluate left atrial (LA) metrics in CES in sinus rhythm (SR) (Group 1), paroxysmal (PAF) (Group 2), and persistent AF (Group 3). Consecutive CES patients presenting with index stroke to this tertiary hospital were evaluated; no prior AF and in-hospital telemetry determined patients as SR, PAF, or persistent AF (n=30/group). Comprehensive transthoracic echocardiogram evaluated LA metrics.

Direct oral anticoagulants: patient reported adherence and minor bleedings
AbstractData regarding adherence and minor bleeding on direct oral anticoagulants in everyday life are still sparse. Inclusion criteria: treatment initiated with dabigatran, rivaroxaban or apixaban in non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients from a center in northern Sweden between 2011 and 2019 (n = 668). Exclusion criteria: cognitive impairment, dose dispensing, need of interpreter or hospital admission (n = 67). Patent foramen ovale closure in non-elderly and elderly patients with cryptogenic stroke: a hospital-based cohort study
DiscussionPFO closure was associated with a reduced risk of the primary outcome in patients with PFO and CS in our total cohort, which included non-elderly and elderly patients. Compared to those without PFO closure, elderly patients with PFO closure had a better functional outcome at 180 days. PFO closure might be considered in selected elderly patients with PFO.
