Impact of Tag Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in CCL11 Gene on Risk of Subtypes of Ischemic Stroke in Xinjiang Han Populations.
CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that the CCL11 gene could play an important role in the pathogenesis of lacunar stroke and LAA stroke in the Han population of China. PMID: 28873081 [PubMed - in process]

The Association of Stage 1 Hypertension Defined by the 2017 ACC/AHA Guideline with Stroke and Its Subtypes among Elderly Chinese.
Conclusion: Among adults aged ≥60 years in rural China, stage 1 hypertension defined by 2017 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association hypertension guideline was independently associated with the increased risk of all stroke and ischemic stroke, excluding hemorrhagic stroke. PMID: 32149103 [PubMed - in process]

Associations between Aquaglyceroporin Gene Polymorphisms and Risk of Stroke among Patients with Hypertension.
Conclusions: This study suggests that SNPs rs2989924 and rs3758269 are associated with the risk of stroke among patients with hypertension, while there were no statistically significant associations between rs2542743, rs57139208, and rs16939881 and the risk of stroke being observed. Effects of a Stroke Primary Prevention Program on Risk Factors for At-Home Elderly.
CONCLUSIONS Based on the results of this study, participating in a stroke prevention program enabled at-risk elderly participants who lived at home in rural areas to perform health-promoting behaviors. This program may reduce the incidence of stroke by reducing risk factors and managing stroke precursor diseases. PMID: 26615035 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Analysis of the Relationship between Adult Asthma and Stroke: A Longitudinal Follow-Up Study Using the Korean National Sample Cohort.
Abstract Several previous studies demonstrated the risk of stroke in asthma patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke in asthma patients, independent of age, sex, income, region of residence, and past medical histories. The Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Sample Cohort from 2002 through 2013 was used. Overall, 111,364 asthma patients ≥ 20 years old were matched to 111,364 control participants for age, sex, income, region of residence, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Asthma was classified using ICD-10 codes (J45 and J46) an...

"Addressing the impact of stroke risk factors in a case control study in tertiary care hospitals": a case control study in Tertiary Care Hospitals of Peshawar, Khyber Phukhtoonkhwa (KPK) Pakistan
Conclusion: Hypertension, Smoking, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle and cardiac problems have strong correlations and association with Stroke and are the major risk factors of stroke. Prevention of these risk factors can lead to decrease in the incidence of stroke. B.M.I, diet, stress and family history of stroke had no significant association.

Evaluation of Pathological Association between Stroke-Related QTL and Salt-Induced Renal Injury in Stroke-Prone Spontaneously Hypertensive Rat.
Abstract The stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP) suffers from severe hypertension and hypertensive organ damage such as cerebral stroke and kidney injury under salt-loading. By a quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis between SHRSP and SHR (the stroke-resistant parental strain of SHRSP), two major QTLs for stroke susceptibility were identified on chromosomes 1 and 18 of SHRSP, which were confirmed in congenic strains constructed between SHRSP and SHR. As the progression of renal dysfunction was suggested to be one of the key factors inducing stroke in SHRSP, we examined effects of the stroke-relat...

The Effect of Winter Temperature on Patients with Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS When the average winter temperature was <13°C, the risk factors, etiology, coagulation factors, and degree of neurological impairment of patients with ischemic stroke were significantly different from patients with ischemic stroke during warmer temperature. Characteristics of Cerebral Stroke in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
This article focuses on epidemiology features, risk factors, and pathogenesis of stroke in the TAR in an effort to generate a better understanding of the characteristics of stroke in this region. The special plateau-related factors such as its high elevation, limited oxygen, the high incidence of hypertension, smoking, and the unique dietary habits of the region are correlated with the high incidence of stroke. In addition to these factors, the pathogenesis of stroke in this high-altitude area is also unique. However, there is no established explanation for the unique occurrence and high incidence of stroke in the TAR. Our...

Hypertension Among Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients in Northeast China: A Population-Based Study 2017-2019.
CONCLUSIONS The high prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension and high rates of blood pressure at stages 2 and 3 in patients with prior hemorrhagic stroke indicated a considerable stroke burden in northeast China. Therefore, effective and long-time management of hypertension in stroke survivors should be a priority. PMID: 33376232 [PubMed - in process]

Association of intermittent versus continuous hemodialysis modalities with mortality in the setting of acute stroke among patients with end-stage renal disease
Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) are 8–10 times more likely to suffer from a stroke compared with the general public. Despite this risk, there are minimal data elucidating which hemodialysis modality is best for patients with ESRD following a stroke, and guidelines for their management are lacking. We retrospectively queried the US Renal Data System administrative database for all-cause mortality in ESRD stroke patients who received either intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Acute ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke were identified using the International Cla...

Knowledge of stroke a study from a sex perspective
Conclusions: Stroke knowledge is suboptimal in both men and women. We detected better knowledge of stroke risk factors in women, as well as differences in the type of risk factors listed by men and women. There were significant sex differences regarding response to stroke or to its warning signs.
