Smoking-Thrombolysis Paradox: Recanalization and Reperfusion Rates After Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator in Smokers With Ischemic Stroke Original Contributions
Conclusions— Smoking is independently associated with recanalization and reperfusion, indicating that thrombolytic therapy acts more effectively in smokers; because of small numbers, these results should be considered preliminary. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://clinicaltrials.gov. Unique Identifier: NCT00715533.

Prospective Study Of Acute Ischemic Stroke Sub-Types In A Teritiary Care Hospital In South India (P4.283)
Conclusion: The study contributes to understanding of demographic characteristics, risk factors and stroke-subtype in acute ischemic stroke. Like other studies LVA is the commonest subtype and intra-cranial vessels are commonly involved as in other Asian studies.Disclosure: Dr. Garuda has nothing to disclose. CT Angiogram Helps to Predict Ischemic Stroke in Dizzy Patients, but NOT Better than the Clinical Examination (P3.084)
Conclusions: In patients with subjective dizziness, stroke risk factors and focal exam findings predict acute ischemic stroke. Calcification on CTA is also predictive, but does not significantly improve sensitivity.Disclosure: Dr. Chen has nothing to disclose. Dr. Schneider has nothing to disclose. Association between Inflammatory Biomarkers and Progression of Intracranial Large Artery Stenosis after Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions: In addition to traditional risk factors and baseline radiologic findings, circulating levels of IL-6 measured soon after stroke onset are associated with future ILA progression.

The Detrimental Effect of Aging on Leptomeningeal Collaterals in Ischemic Stroke
Conclusion: Our findings show that there is a significant interplay between patient age and adequacy of leptomeningeal collateral circulation in patients with proximal MCA occlusion. The relationship could contribute to adverse tissue outcome and thereby to unfavorable clinical outcome observed in elderly patients with ischemic stroke.

Risk Factor Stratification for Intracranial Stenosis in Taiwanese Patients With Cervicocerebral Stenosis Stroke
Conclusions CEIS was associated with higher odds of ischemic stroke compared with isolated ICS and isolated ECS. Smoking and diabetes mellitus, major determinants of CEIS and isolated ICS, should be targeted in therapeutic strategies to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke.

Predictors of Restenosis Following Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting Brief Reports
Conclusions— Carotid restenosis after carotid angioplasty is associated with ipsilateral stroke occurrence. In our sample, hypertension, angioplasty without stent, and impaired vasoreactivity identify patients at high risk of restenosis and could help to select patients for follow-up ultrasonography imaging.

Retinal and Ophthalmic Artery Studies in Ischemic Stroke Patients Using Fundus Photography and Transcranial Doppler Methods (P4.252)
Conclusions:Our study in a robust sample of non-severe stroke patients showed that abnormal retinal AVR is strongly associated with IS patients even after accounting for traditional risk factors. Internal Cerebral Vein Asymmetry on Follow-up Brain Computed Tomography after Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Anterior Circulation Ischemic Stroke Is Associated with Poor Outcome
Background: Identifying early predictors of functional outcome after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is important for planning rehabilitation strategies. Internal cerebral veins (ICV) drain deep parts of brain, run parallel to each other, and consistently seen on computed tomography angiography (CTA). Even minor asymmetry in their filling can be identified. We hypothesized that venous drainage would be impaired in patients with acute occlusion of internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery. Because systemic thrombolysis can alter the vascular findings, we evaluated the relationship between ICV asymmetry on follow-up CTA ...
