Independent risk factors for an increased incidence of thromboembolism after lung transplantation
ConclusionsThe incidence of TE after LTX is high, especially in lung transplant recipients with a BMI  >  25 and an age >  55 years as well as cardiovascular risk factors closely associated with the metabolic syndrome. As these patients comprise a growing recipient fraction, intensified research should focus on the risks and benefits of regular screening or a prolonged TE prophylaxis in these patients.Trial registration number DKRS: 00021501.

Real-World Study Confirms Benefit of XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) for Secondary Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism in Cancer Patients
TITUSVILLE, NJ, December 9, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced observational data from eight years of clinical practice showing that the oral Factor Xa inhibitor XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) is associated with comparable effectiveness and safety to the Factor Xa inhibitor apixaban for the treatment of cancer-associated thromboembolism (CAT) in a broad cohort of patients with various cancer types. Patients with CAT are at a higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is the second-leading cause of death in people with cancer.1Data from the Observational Study in Cancer-A...

The Effect of Extracellular Vesicles on Thrombosis
AbstractThe risk of cardiovascular events caused by acute thrombosis is high, including acute myocardial infarction, acute stroke, acute pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis. In this review, we summarize the roles of extracellular vesicles of different cellular origins in various cardiovascular events associated with acute thrombosis, as described in the current literature, to facilitate the future development of a precise therapy for thrombosis caused by such vesicles. We hope that our review will indicate a new horizon in the field of cardiovascular research with regard to the treatment of acute thrombosis, espec...

Wide-ranging clinical spectrum of paradoxical embolism
The purpose of this review is to raise the index of suspicion for paradoxical embolism among generalists. The review is based solely on anecdotal reports compiled from EMBASE, MEDLINE, Googlescholar and Pubmed. Search terms were ‘paradoxical embolism’, ‘pulmonary embolism’ and ‘pulmonary arteriovenous malformations’. What emerged was that right-to-left paradoxical embolism could occur with or without concurrent pulmonary embolism, and also with and without proof of the presence of an ‘embolus-in-transit’. Potential sites of single or multiple systemic involvement included the...

Use of Mendelian randomization to evaluate the effect of atrial fibrillation on cardiovascular diseases and cardiac death
ConclusionsThis comprehensive MR analysis verified the causal associations between atrial fibrillation and high risks of heart failure, ischaemic stroke, transient ischaemic attack, peripheral artery diseases, cardiac death, and hypertension. Interventions to reduce cardiovascular diseases beyond ischaemic stroke are warranted in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Ninety-seven cases of experiences with the left thoracotomy approach for off-pump conventional revascularization: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Left thoracotomy for conventional revascularization is a safe procedure for appropriately selected patients, with few early complications and good early and mid-term results. More cases are ongoing and long-term results are in observation.PMID:36389332 | PMC:PMC9641355 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-22-1162
