Depressive Symptoms and Risk of Stroke in a National Cohort of Black and White Participants From REGARDS
Conclusions The association of depressive symptoms with increased stroke risk was similar among a national sample of Black and White participants. These findings suggest that assessment of depressive symptoms should be considered in primary stroke prevention for both Black and White participants.

Interactive Voice Response_A Novel Approach to Post-Stroke Depression Monitoring (P7.130)
Conclusions: Stroke patients with depressive symptoms were able and willing to engage in IVR symptom monitoring and the burden on the health team was minimal. Future studies are needed to understand why subjects dropped out of the intervention and to explore the efficacy of this approach.Disclosure: Dr. Rusche-Skolarus has nothing to disclose. Implications of stroke for caregiver outcomes: findings from the ASPIRE‐S study
ConclusionFindings indicate that caregiver and stroke survivor well‐being are interdependent. Thus, early interventions, including increased training and support programs that include caregivers, are likely to reduce the risk of negative emotional outcomes.

Physical Consequences of Depression Predominate in the Early Post Stroke Period (P1.220)
Conclusions: Physical features of depression show up within the first few weeks after a stroke. There may be an interaction between the syndrome of post stroke fatigue and PSD. Recognition and treatment of these physical features could potentially improve the results of rehabilitation from stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Bhattacharya has nothing to disclose. Poststroke depression: a review emphasizing the role of prophylactic treatment and synergy with treatment for motor recovery.
Abstract Neuropsychiatric manifestations are common post stroke. Depression has a prevalence rate of 9% to 34% in the initial 3 to 6 months following stroke and is the most common neuropsychiatric sequel of stroke. Poststroke depression (PSD) has a significant adverse impact on the course of rehabilitation following stroke, resulting in overall impaired functional outcome. An increased risk of suicide and increased mortality have been reported. The association of depression and stroke is well established, highly complex, and multifactorial in origin, and the etiology of PSD involves size, location and number of le...

Evaluation of Sexual Functions of Women with Stroke (P7.157)
CONCLUSIONS:Sexual functions are affected negatively in women with stroke and considered to be associated with increased disability, levels of independence and accompanied depression, and age. Therefore, women with stroke should also be evaluated as to sexual functions during the follow-up.Study Supported by:NoneDisclosure: Dr. Gumus has nothing to disclose. Impact of Prestroke Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor Treatment on Stroke Severity and Mortality Brief Reports
Conclusions— Prestroke SSRI use is associated with increased stroke severity and mortality in patients with hemorrhagic stroke. Although prestroke depression in itself may increase stroke severity and mortality, this was not found in SSRI users with ischemic stroke.

Central poststroke pain in young ischemic stroke survivors in the Helsinki Young Stroke Registry
Conclusions: Late persistent CPSP was found in 5.9% of young stroke survivors and was associated with concomitant other pain, impaired quality of life, and moderate or severe stroke symptoms.

Long-term impact of stroke on family caregiver well-being: A population-based case-control study
Conclusions: Stroke caregiving is associated with persistent psychological distress, but life satisfaction, depression, and mental health QOL became comparable to noncaregivers by 3 years after stroke. Caregiver leisure satisfaction was chronically lower than in noncaregivers. Intervention for stroke caregivers should recognize both the strains faced by caregivers and their capacity for successful coping over time.

Interactive Voice Response—An Innovative Approach to Post-Stroke Depression Self-Management Support
Abstract Automated interactive voice response (IVR) call systems can provide systematic monitoring and self-management support to depressed patients, but it is unknown if stroke patients are able and willing to engage in IVR interactions. We sought to assess the feasibility and acceptability of IVR as an adjunct to post-stroke depression follow-up care. The CarePartner program is a mobile health program designed to optimize depression self-management, facilitate social support from a caregiver, and strengthen connections between stroke survivors and primary care providers (PCPs). Ischemic stroke patients and an in...

Comparing the EQ-5D-3L anxiety or depression domain to the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale to identify anxiety or depression after stroke
Conclusions: The EQ-5D-3L appears to have value as a population level indicator of anxiety or depression following stroke. Further validation against "gold standard" clinical assessment is required for clinical applications.PMID:33726636 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2021.1895494
