Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers for adults with early (stage 1 to 3) non-diabetic chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSIONS: There is currently insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of ACEi or ARB in patients with stage 1 to 3 CKD who do not have DM. The available evidence is overall of very low certainty and high risk of bias. We have identified an area of large uncertainty for a group of patients who account for most of those diagnosed as having CKD.PMID:37466151 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD007751.pub3

Atherosclerosis on CT coronary angiography and risk of long-term cardiovascular events post liver transplantation
CONCLUSION: The standardized CAD-RADS classification on CTCA predicted the occurrence of cardiovascular outcomes following LT, with a potential to increase utilization of preventive cardiovascular therapies.PMID:37432891 | DOI:10.1097/LVT.0000000000000215

In-hospital stroke and mortality trends after left ventricular assist device implantation in the United States from 2017 to 2019
CONCLUSIONS: Our study found a significant downtrend in the in-hospital mortality rates among patients with LVAD without substantial changes in stroke rate trends over the study timeframe. As stroke rates remained steady, we hypothesize that improved management along with better control of blood pressure, could have played an important role in survival benefit over the study time frame.PMID:37387231 | DOI:10.1177/03913988231183723

Improved mortality and haemodynamics with milrinone in cardiogenic shock due to acute decompensated heart failure
ConclusionsThe use of milrinone compared with dobutamine in patients with ADHF-CS is associated with lower 30  day mortality and improved haemodynamics. These findings warrant further study in future randomized controlled trials.

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5618: Automated Signal Quality Assessment of Single-Lead ECG Recordings for Early Detection of Silent Atrial Fibrillation
s D. Zink Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an arrhythmic cardiac disorder with a high and increasing prevalence in aging societies, which is associated with a risk for stroke and heart failure. However, early detection of onset AF can become cumbersome since it often manifests in an asymptomatic and paroxysmal nature, also known as silent AF. Large-scale screenings can help identifying silent AF and allow for early treatment to prevent more severe implications. In this work, we present a machine learning-based algorithm for assessing signal quality of hand-held diagnostic ECG devices to prevent misclassification due to insu...

Social bias in artificial intelligence algorithms designed to improve cardiovascular risk assessment relative to the Framingham Risk Score: a protocol for a systematic review
This study will employ an equity-lens to identify sources of bias (ie, race/ethnicity, gender and social stratum) in ML algorithms designed to improve CVD risk assessment relative to the FRS. A comprehensive literature search will be completed using MEDLINE, Embase and IEEE to answer the research question: do AI algorithms that are designed for the estimation of CVD risk and that compare performance with the FRS address the sources of bias inherent in the FRS? No study date filters will be imposed on the search, but English language filters will be applied. Studies describing a specific algorithm or ML approach that provid...

Adrenomedullin peptides and precursor levels in relation to haemodynamics and prognosis after heart transplantation
ConclusionsElevated plasma levels of ADM may be a marker of pressure/volume overload in HF patients with PH, as well as long-term prognosis after HT. In line with previous studies, our findings additionally confirm that ADM may be a marker of venous congestion in HF. Further studies are encouraged to establish a deeper understanding of the properties of ADM and its relationship with HF and PH, in order to potentially facilitate clinical management of HF and associated PH.
