Prevalence, risk determinants and consequences of atrial fibrillation in rheumatic heart disease: 6 years hospital based-Himachal Pradesh- Rheumatic Fever/Rheumatic Heart Disease (HP-RF/RHD) Registry
ConclusionAF is common in RHD patients and is significantly associated with heart failure and systemic thromboembolism. Age, mitral stenosis severity, tricuspid regurgitation and LA size were independently associated with AF.

Gender disparities with the use of percutaneous left ventricular assist device in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention complicated by cardiogenic shock: From pVAD Working Group
ConclusionsDespite the small number of cohorts, this study did not reveal any significant differences among gender with the use of percutaneous left ventricular assist devices for PCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by CS. However, initiation of Impella prior to PCI may be associated with improved mortality and morbidity in both genders.

Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio Predicts Heart Failure Readmissions and Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
ConclusionNLR predicts all-cause mortality, MACE, and HF hospitalization 1-year post-TAVR. NLR with TAVR risk score improved predictability for MACE. Further studies for prognostication utilizing NLR are warranted.

Sacubitril/valsartan: A novel angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor.
CONCLUSION: Effective reduction of blood pressure to accepted goals is the key to reduce the risk of CV events and stroke. Dual inhibition of neprilysin and the angiotensin receptor with sacubitril/valsartan may represent an attractive and serendipitous therapeutic approach for a range of CV diseases, including hypertension and HF, in which vasoconstriction, volume overload and neuro-hormonal activation play a part in pathophysiology. Sacubitril/Valsartan appears to be more efficacious in reducing blood pressure than currently available ACEi and ARBs with a similar safety and tolerability profile. Besides, pleiotropic bene...

Levosimendan for patients with heart failure undergoing major oncological surgery: A randomised blinded pilot study
Conclusion: In patients with low EF <35% and CHF, administration of levosimendan for 24 hours before major abdominal oncologic surgeries may reduce the risk of hypotension and decompensated heart failure and may improve cardiac function.

Deep learning approach for diabetes prediction using PIMA Indian dataset
ConclusionThe outcome of the study confirms that DL provides the best results with the most promising extracted features. DL achieves the accuracy of 98.07% which can be used for further development of the automatic prognosis tool. The accuracy of the DL approach can further be enhanced by including the omics data for prediction of the onset of the disease.

Ethnic differences in atrial fibrillation among patients with heart failure in Asia
ConclusionsAmong patients with HF across Asia, clinical correlates and adverse outcomes associated with AF are similar across ethnicities; however, there are striking ethnic variations in the prevalence of AF that are not accounted for by known risk factors.

What Are the Main Acyanotic Congenital Heart Diseases?
Discussion Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are malformations of the heart and great vessels. It occurs in about 5-8/1000 live births. Cyanotic congenital heart disease is often noted perinatally because of cyanosis, respiratory distress and/or poor feeding or other distress type problems. A review can be found here. Acyanotic congenital heart disease (ACHD) can present at birth but often is seen in older children or adults unless the lesions are severe, especially obstructive lesions. Severe lesions may also cause cyanosis and distress type problems in patients also. Shunting lesions cause problems by diverting blood flo...

One-year clinical outcome of patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation: Insights from KERALA-AF registry
CONCLUSIONS: Despite high risk profile of patients in this registry, use of OAC was suboptimal, whereas antiplatelets were used in nearly half of patients. A relatively high rate of annual mortality and hospitalization was observed in patients with NVAF in Kerala AF Registry.PMID:33714410 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2020.11.152
