Risk factors associated with falls in adult patients after stroke living in the community: baseline data from a stroke cohort in Brazil.
Conclusions: Patients with poor TUG performance, longer times since stroke onset, and right-hemisphere injury have particularly high fall rates, and TUG cutoff points for fall prediction vary according to cerebral hemisphere. PMID: 24985389 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions— Our findings reveal socioeconomic inequalities in stroke incidence among all ethnic groups. Reduction of socioeconomic inequalities in stroke incidence among all ethnic groups may lead to a major public health improvement for all. Policy measures tackling socioeconomic inequalities should take into account the increased risk of stroke among ethnic minority populations.

External Validation of the Boston Acute Stroke Imaging Scale and M1-BASIS in Thrombolyzed Patients Clinical Sciences

Socioeconomic Position and Survival After Stroke in Denmark 2003 to 2012: Nationwide Hospital-Based Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The survival of patients with low income was reduced by 30% as compared with those with high income. Education had only a modest effect and only in patients aged <65 years. The impact of socioeconomic position was on late but not on early poststroke death.

Depression after stroke and risk of mortality: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions. Despite some limitations, this paper confirms the potential role of depression on post stroke mortality. The relationship between depression and mortality after stroke seems to be related to the followup duration. Effect of Seasonal and Monthly Variation in Weather and Air Pollution Factors on Stroke Incidence in Seoul, Korea Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We demonstrated distinct patterns of seasonal and monthly variation in the incidence of stroke and its subtypes through consideration of the meteorologic and air pollution parameters. We therefore expect that these findings may enhance our understanding of the relationships between stroke and weather and pollutants.
