Conclusions In a contemporary AF cohort, use of OAC overall and use of NOACs were not significantly lower among Medicaid patients relative to others. However, among warfarin users, Medicaid patients spent less time in therapeutic range compared with those with other forms of insurance.

Modeled Health and Economic Impact of Team-Based Care for Hypertension
Conclusions Nationwide adoption of team-based care for uncontrolled hypertension could have sizable effects in reducing CVD burden. Based on the study’s assumptions, the policy would be cost saving from the perspective of Medicare and may prove to be cost effective from other payers’ perspectives. Expected net cost savings for Medicare would more than offset expected net costs for all other insurers.

Disparities in Home Health Service Providers among Medicare Beneficiaries with Stroke.
This study examined the intensity of home health (HH) services, as defined by the number of visits and service delivery by rehabilitation specialists, among Medicare beneficiaries with stroke. A cross-sectional secondary data analysis was conducted using 2009 HH claims data obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Research Data Assistance Center. There were no significant rural-urban differences in the number of HH visits. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ranks septicemia as the most expensive condition treated in United States hospitals, resulting in an aggregate cost of $20.3 billion (5.2%) of the total aggregate cost for all hospitalizations.1 For many years, emphasis has been placed on improving acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and stroke outcomes through implementation and management of the hospital quality core measures mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which has resulted in better outcomes and reduced morbidity and mortality from these conditions.

Boston Scientific Ramping Up Watchman, S-ICD Programs
Boston Scientific is ramping up its Watchman anti-stroke device program in anticipation of a National Coverage Determination from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The device maker also is optimistic that it will reverse a decline in cardiac rhythm management (CRM) sales by the end of 2016, based partially on growing adoption of its Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (S-ICD) system.
