Music-supported therapy (MST) in improving post-stroke patients' upper-limb motor function: a randomised controlled pilot study.
This study supports that MST, when combined with conventional treatment, is effective for the recovery of motor skills in post-stroke patients. Additionally, it suggests that apart from the repetitive practices of MST, music may play a unique role in improving upper-limb motor function for post-stroke patients. Association between interleukin-6 (G174C and C572G) promoter gene polymorphisms and risk of ischemic stroke in North Indian population: a case-control study.
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that IL-6 (G174C) polymorphism is significantly associated with the risk of IS in North Indian population. However, IL-6 (C572G) polymorphism is found significantly associated with the risk of IS after adjusting the demographic and risk factors variables. Prospective studies with large sample size are required for independent validation. Our findings could be helpful in identifying individuals at increased risk for developing IS. Association between Endothelial nitric oxide synthase G894T gene polymorphism and risk of ischemic stroke in North Indian population: a case-control study.
CONCLUSION: The findings of the present study suggest that polymorphism in G894T position of eNOS gene might be a risk factor for IS mainly for LVD stroke subtype in North Indian population. The association between high on-treatment platelet reactivity and early recurrence of ischemic events after minor stroke or TIA.

Persistence of secondary prevention medication and related factors for acute ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack in China.
CONCLUSIONS: More than half of patients with AIS and TIA reported discontinuing one or more secondary prevention medications within 3 months of hospital discharge. Relationship of phosphodiesterase 4D (PDE4D) gene polymorphisms with risk of ischemic stroke: a hospital based case-control study.
CONCLUSION: SNP 83 of PDE4D gene may increase the risk for developing IS whereas SNP 87 and SNP45 of PDE4D may not be associated with the risk of IS in the North Indian population. Effects of different montages of transcranial direct current stimulation on the risk of falls and lower limb function after stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first trial with different setups of tDCS on acute stroke patients. tDCS presents as an effective treatment strategy in reducing the risk of falls and improving lower limb function after a stroke. Elevated CRP at admission predicts post-stroke cognitive impairment in Han Chinese patients with intracranial arterial stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the effects of CRP on PSCI in Han Chinese with ICAS. Our findings indicate that higher CRP levels at admission are associated with subsequent cognitive decline in Han Chinese patients with ICAS following ischemic stroke. Prognosis of dolichoectasia in non-cardioembolic transient ischemic attack and minor stroke.

D-dimer > 2.785  μg/ml and multiple infarcts ≥3 vascular territories are two characteristics of identifying cancer-associated ischemic stroke patients.

Association analysis of Glutathione S-transferase omega-1 and omega-2 genetic polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in a Turkish population.
CONCLUSION: No significant difference was observed between the stroke patients and controls in terms of genotypes and allele distributions. Double combine haplotype CCAA was found to be protective against ischemic stroke when compare to other haplotypes. However, different genotypes of GSTO1 and GSTO2 were observed to have effects on stroke risk in subgroups of diabetics and smokers. Serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor as potential recovery biomarkers in stroke.
DISCUSSION: Biomarkers have the potential to characterize an individual's potential for recovery from stroke. Neurotrophins such as insulin-like growth factor-1 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor are thought to be important in neurorehabilitation; however, the factors that modulate these biomarkers are not well understood.
