ARHGEF10 gene polymorphism is closely associated with the risk of ischemic stroke in Northern Han Chinese population.
This study aims to evaluate the potential association of the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of ARHGEF10 with ischemic stroke (IS) in northern Han Chinese population. Three SNPs of ARHGEF10 gene were analyzed in 385 IS patients and 362 hypertension control patients using the ligase detection reaction (LDR) method. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that GG genotypes of SNP rs2280887 were associated with an increased risk of IS in dominant, recessive, and additive models. Moreover, SNP rs9657362 and SNP rs4480162 were significantly associated with IS in dominant and additive models. These results indicate that...

Prognostic value of serum thioredoxin levels in ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Serum Trx might be as a biomarker of cardioembolic stroke severity. Increased serum Trx levels could be a useful tool to predict good prognosis in patients with AIS. PMID: 28828929 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neuroprotective effect of secreted factors from human adipose stem cells in a rat stroke model.
Conclusions Our results suggest that RFs, selected from hASC-CM, may exert a neuroprotective effect in an ischemic stroke rat model that is comparable to the neuroprotective effect of full hASC-CM. The therapeutic effects of the RFs may be mediated by an anti-inflammatory mechanism and cell apoptosis inhibition. Hence, treatment with RFs can be considered a feasible substitute for stem cell therapy after stroke. PMID: 28948857 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The effect of normobaric oxygen in patients with acute stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions The existing trends toward benefits revealed in this meta-analysis help us appreciate the promising value of NBO, although current evidence of NBO on improving clinical outcomes of stroke is insufficient. Well-designed multi-center clinical trials are encouraged and urgently needed to further explore the efficacy of NBO on brain protection. PMID: 29600891 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Reversed ophthalmic artery flow following ischemic stroke: a possible predictor of outcomes following carotid artery stenting.
This study provides evidence that CAS is a valid and effective treatment option regardless of whether patients exhibited ROAF or not. Patients without ROAF were significantly more likely to have improved mid-term functional outcomes compared to those with ROAF. In the group without ROAF admission, CRP may play a role in predicting subsequent functional outcomes, whereas admission Barthel Index was a predictor of outcome in the ROAF group. Population-based stroke surveillance using big data: state-wide epidemiological trends in admissions and mortality in New South Wales, Australia.
DISCUSSION: Improved prevention may have underpinned declining intracerebral haemorrhage rates while survival gains suggest that innovations in care are being successfully translated. Mortality in patients surviving the acute period is unchanged and may be increasing for subarachnoid haemorrhage warranting investment in post-discharge care and secondary prevention. AST to ALT ratio and risk of hemorrhagic transformation in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher AAR was associated with an increased risk of HT after ischemic stroke. In addition, AAR might be a better biomarker for predicting HT than ALT or AST. PMID: 32697140 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk factors for in-hospital mortality among acute ischemic stroke patients in China: a nationwide prospective study.
Conclusions: The findings from this study may help clinicians control the risk of IHM better for patients with AIS. PMID: 33357098 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association between insulin resistance and aspirin or clopidogrel resistance in Chinese patients with recent ischemic stroke/TIA.
Conclusions: Insulin resistance was an independent predictor for development of antiplatelet drug resistance in patients with recent minor ischemic stroke or TIA. More attention should be paid to recognize these patients and antithrombotic effect should be monitored when antiplatelet drugs were applied to these patients. Temporal course of peripheral inflammation markers and indexes following acute ischemic stroke: prediction of mortality, functional outcome, and stroke-associated pneumonia
CONCLUSIONS: Inflammatory parameters from peripheral routine blood tests showed significant variations during the first two weeks following stroke, but discriminative capacity of these changes is limited due to confounders such as age and post-treatment clinical stroke severity.PMID:34514954 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1975222
