Can we trust computers to assess the cognition of stroke patients? A systematic review
ConclusionsAlthough the use of CCA tools for assessing the cognition of post-stroke patients is becoming popular, there are still some limitations and challenges of using such tools in stroke survivors. More evidence is thus needed to verify the value and specific role of these tools in assessing the cognitive impairment of stroke patients.

Variants in genes related to inflammation and endothelial function can increase the risk for carotid atherosclerosis in southwestern China
ConclusionThe prevalence of carotid atherosclerosis was observed to be extremely high in the high-risk stroke population in southwestern China. There were associations observed between the specific variants in inflammation and endothelial function relevant genes and carotid atherosclerosis. The high-risk interactive genotypes among IL1A rs1609682, ITGA2 rs1991013, and HABP2 rs7923349 significantly increased the risk of carotid atherosclerosis. Relationship between serum bicarbonate levels and the risk of death within 30 days in ICU patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionLow baseline bicarbonate levels and decreased bicarbonate levels during the ICU stay were associated with a high risk of 30-day mortality in acute ischemic stroke patients. Special interventions should be offered to those with low baseline and decreased bicarbonate levels during their ICU stay.

Altered flexor carpi radialis motor axon excitability properties after cerebrovascular stroke
ConclusionIn contrast to our expectations, FCR axons were not hyperexcitable after stroke. Rather, FCR axons were found to be hyperpolarized bilaterally post stroke, and this was associated with disability and [K+]. Reduced FCR axon excitability may represent a kind of bilateral trans-synaptic homeostatic mechanism that acts to minimize motoneuron hyperexcitability.

Stress hyperglycemia as a modifiable predictor of futile recanalization in patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke
DiscussionFR is common after MT. We recognized older age, female sex and baseline NIHSS as non-modifiable predictors of FR. On the other hand, time from symptoms onset to MT and stress hyperglycemia were modifiable pre- and post-MT factors, respectively. Case report: Young-onset large vessel ischemic stroke due to hyperhomocysteinemia associated with the C677T polymorphism on 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and multi-vitamin deficiency

Herein, we report on a 30-year-old man previously diagnosed with epilepsy who presented with right hemiplegia and total aphasia. Association between hysterectomy status and stroke risk and cause-specific and all-cause mortality: evidence from the 2005 –2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
