Anxiety in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Risk Factors and Effects on Functional Status
Conclusion: Depressive symptoms are the major correlates of PSA while more severe PSA is associated with poorer ADL and health-related QOL. Acute lesions involving CHWM may correlate with PSA in ischemic stroke patients with mild-to-moderate neurologic deficits, supporting a lesion-location hypothesis in PSA.IntroductionAnxiety is prevalent after stroke and occurs in about one-quarter of stroke survivors (1, 2). Poststroke anxiety (PSA) may have a negative impact on quality of life (QOL) of stroke survivors, affecting their rehabilitation (3). Furthermore, one prospective study found that severe anxiety symptoms were assoc...

World-Wide Efficacy of Bone Marrow Derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells in Preclinical Ischemic Stroke Models: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Our results show worldwide efficacy of BM-MSCs in improving functional outcomes in pre-clinical animal models of stroke and support testing these cells in clinical trials in various ranges of time windows using different delivery routes. The continued growing number of publications showing functional benefit of BM-MSCs are now adding limited value to an oversaturated literature spanning 18 years. Researchers should focus on identifying definitive mechanisms on how BM-MSCs lead to benefit in stroke models. Introduction Ischemic stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and the leading cause of long term di...

Awareness of stroke among patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients on hemodialysis, especially women and older people, have little knowledge about stroke.PMID:37531492 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2022.0644.R1.24042023

Predictors of return to work after stroke: a prospective, observational cohort study with 6  months follow-up.
Conclusions: Less than 50% of stroke survivors returned to work six months after stroke. Among predictors, only the level of dependence in daily activities is a modifiable factor. Interventions aimed at reducing disability after stroke might increase rates of return to work. Implications for rehabilitation In Brazil, less than 50% of stroke survivors returned to work six months after stroke. Clinicians may collect information regarding household income, type of work and dependence in daily activities to estimate chances of returning to work, in developing countries. Being independent at 3 months was the strongest predictor...

Awareness towards stroke among high school students in Brazil: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: There was a knowledge deficit with regard to recognizing stroke and activating the emergency medical services. The findings apply to the sample investigated and suggest that there is a need for stroke educational interventions, starting in high school.PMID:35508010 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2021.0659.R2.13102021
