Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases: a nationwide population-based cohort study
World Psychiatry. 2022 Oct;21(3):452-459. doi: 10.1002/wps.21020.ABSTRACTAccumulating evidence suggests a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases among individuals with mental disorders, but very little is known about the risk for overall and specific groups of cardiovascular diseases in people with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). To fill this knowledge gap, we investigated the prospective associations between ADHD and a wide range of cardiovascular diseases in adults. In a nationwide population-based cohort study, we identified 5,389,519 adults born between 1941 and 1983, without pre-existing cardiovascul...

Health-related quality of life and associated factors among hypertensive patients
CONCLUSIONS: Hypertensives had low HRQOL scores in all domains. Factors affecting their HRQOL should be taken into account when treating these patients.PMID:36027221 | DOI:10.1097/01.hjh.0000837808.51473.2f

Limb heaviness as a sensorimotor disorder alters rehabilitation adherence after a stroke
ConclusionBy identifying patients with stroke with limb heaviness, it led to lower levels of motor functional rehabilitation adherence. We must pay more attention to limb heaviness and provide effective interventions to improve rehabilitation adherence and promote patient recovery.

Reporting dose in complex self-management support interventions for long-term conditions: is it defined by researchers and received by participants? A systematic review
Conclusions Interpreting results and implementing effective complex self-management interventions is difficult when researchers’ reporting of dose is not in line with guidelines. If trial findings indicate benefit from the intervention, clear reporting of dose ensures reliable implementation to standard care. If the results are non-significant, detailed reporting enables better interpretation of results, that is, differentiating between poor implementation and lack of effectiveness. This ensures quality of interventions and validity and generalisability of trial findings. Therefore, wider adoption of reporting the TI...

Extreme Heat Makes It Hard for Kids To Be Active. But Exercise Is Crucial In a Warming World
Getting kids to be active in a modern world is a tough sell. It can be hard to compete with indoor comforts like video games, television, and air conditioning. Sweltering weather is another formidable barrier to kids getting enough physical activity, finds a new scientific review published in the journal Temperature that analyzed more than 150 studies. Children today are about 30% less aerobically fit than their parents were at their same age, leaving them less prepared to acclimate to a hotter, more extreme climate as they age, the study concluded. “The outside world is becoming more of an extreme environment for hu...

How do cardiovascular risk factors correlate with post-stroke cognitive function: Directly or indirectly through stroke severity?
ConclusionThis is the first Chinese study exploring the moderated and mediating associations between cardiovascular risk factors, stroke severity, and cognitive function after stroke. Age, female sex, and atrial fibrillation were directly associated with lower cognition after stroke. The combination of hypertension might have a positive effect on cognition.

Antibodies to Human Herpesviruses and Rate of Incident Cardiovascular Events and All-Cause Mortality in the UK Biobank Infectious Disease Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this mostly White UK Biobank subset, neither HHV seropositivity nor titers were associated with stroke/MI or all-cause mortality.PMID:35873304 | PMC:PMC9301583 | DOI:10.1093/ofid/ofac294

Persistence of drug therapy is associated with ischemic stroke and other vascular events in high-risk stroke population
The high-risk stroke populations are significantly associated with an increased risk of stroke or other vascular events. Although proven primary and secondary stroke prevention medications are available, persistent use is required to be effective. However, the persistence of drug therapy and its association with outcomes in the high-risk stroke population have received limited study in China. Hence, according to the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS) program in 2015, we performed this multicenter population-based cross-sectional survey and prospective cohort study in Sichuan of southwestern China. The residents...

Glaucoma in rural China (the Rural Epidemiology for Glaucoma in China (REG-China)): a national cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Rural populations have a high prevalence of glaucoma, which should be included in chronic disease management programmes in China for long-term care.PMID:35840290 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2021-320754
