We present a 56-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with acute pharyngitis. Two days later, the patient developed dysarthria, hoarseness, and left side facial weakness. Trigeminal trophic syndrome associated with neuralgia after ischemic stroke —a case report
We describe the case of a 70-year-old woman who was hospitalized because of erythema, ulceration, and crusts on the right side of her face, accompanied by itching, burning, and irritation forcing self-manipulation of the skin. She had been previously repeatedly treated with antibiotics, acyclovir, and topical medications without any improvement. Her medical history revealed an episode of ischemic stroke in 2016, after which a deformation and partial atrophy of the right ala nasi appeared. 266 A drowsy patient: beyond the familiar territory
A 72-year-old man was brought to the hospital after he was found unresponsive at home by his wife who reported that he has been sleepy in the last few days.
He has a background of hypertension, myocardial infarct, and osteoarthritis. His medications include anti-hypertensive and morphine sulphate.
On examination, he was drowsy with GCS fluctuating between 9–11 but maintaining his airways. He was moving all four limbs; pupils were small and unequal but reactive to light. Planter reflexes were downgoing.

Case Report: Late-Onset Mitochondrial Disease Uncovered by Metformin Use in a Patient With Acute Verbal Auditory Agnosia
ConclusionsTo our knowledge, this is the first report of a patient having late-onset MELAS syndrome that manifested as acute verbal auditory agnosia, which was identified after the patient began using metformin. Metformin is known to inhibit mitochondrial function and could trigger clinical features of MELAS syndrome. We encourage clinicians to maintain a high level of awareness that diabetes mellitus can be caused by mitochondrial disease and to exercise caution in the prescription of metformin.
