Impact of body mass index on efficacy and safety of ticagrelor versus clopidogrel in patients with minor stroke or transient ischemic attack
CMAJ. 2023 Jul 10;195(26):E897-E904. doi: 10.1503/cmaj.230262.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Body mass index (BMI) may affect the response to platelet P2Y12 receptor inhibitors. We aimed to explore whether BMI influenced the efficacy and safety of ticagrelor and clopidogrel for secondary prevention of minor ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) among patients enrolled in the CHANCE-2 (Ticagrelor or Clopidogrel with Aspirin in High-Risk Patients with Acute Nondisabling Cerebrovascular Events II) trial.METHODS: In a multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, conducted in China, we randomized patients ...

Aspirin and Subarachnoid Haemorrhage in the UK Biobank
In this study, we aimed to clarify the association between aspirin and SAH in the general population. The UK Biobank is a prospective population-based cohort study. Sex, age, smoking, alcohol, medication use, hypertension, blood pressure, ischaemic heart disease and stroke were recorded at baseline assessments. Follow-up is conducted through linkages to National Health Service data including electronic, coded death certificate, hospital and primary care data. Cox proportional hazards modelling was used to analyse the association between aspirin use and SAH. Of the 501,060 participants included in the analysis, a total of 5...

Acute reperfusion treatment and secondary prevention of cancer-related stroke: comprehensive overview and proposal of clinical algorithm
In conclusion, acute CRS remains a clinical challenge, with many patients suffering recurrent stroke, despite preventive measures. More randomized-controlled clinical trials are urgently needed to pinpoint the most effective management options for this subset of stroke patients.PMID:37342814 | PMC:PMC10278431 | DOI:10.1177/17562864231180717

Dual Versus Mono Antiplatelet Therapy in Patients with Acute Mild-to-Moderate Stroke: A Multicentre Perspective Cohort Study
ConclusionAspirin plus clopidogrel was associated with a reduction in the incidence of disability attributed to index stroke. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of moderate to severe bleeding complications between the two antiplatelet drug regimens.Trial Registration NumberChiCTR1900025214.

Recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA) effectively restores neurological function and improves prognosis in acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Compared with conventional pharmacological regimens, additional rt-PA intravenous thrombolytic therapy improves the clinical outcome of patients with acute ischemic stroke, promotes neurological recovery, and enhances patient prognosis without increasing the risk of patient-related adverse events.PMID:37303683 | PMC:PMC10251022
