Mechanical thrombectomy is cost-effective versus medical management alone around Europe in patients with low ASPECTS
Conclusions MT is efficient versus MM alone for patients with low ASPECTS in eight countries across Europe. Patients with a large ischemic core could be treated with MT because it is both clinically beneficial and economically sustainable.

Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease in Type  2 Diabetes: A Retrospective, Observational Study of Economic and Clinical Burden in Sweden
ConclusionsASCVD is associated with considerable costs, morbidity and mortality in individuals with T2D. These results support structured assessment of ASCVD risk and broader implementation of guideline-recommended treatments in T2D healthcare.

A nationwide cohort study comparing the effectiveness of diuretics and calcium channel blockers on top of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors on chronic kidney disease progression and mortality.
It is unknown whether initiating diuretics on top of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi) is superior to alternative antihypertensive agents such as calcium channel blockers (CCBs) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). For this purpose, we emulated a target trial in the Swedish Renal Registry 2007-2022 that included nephrologist-referred patients with moderate-advanced CKD and treated with RASi, who initiated diuretics or CCB. Using propensity score-weighted cause-specific Cox regression, we compared risks of major adverse kidney events (MAKE; composite of kidney replacement therapy [KRT], experiencing over ...

Development of a Swedish short version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment for cognitive screening in patients with stroke
CONCLUSION: The s-MoCA-SWE (threshold ≤ 12) can detect post-stroke cognitive issues. The high sensitivity makes it a potentially useful "rule-out" tool that may eliminate severe cognitive impairment in people with stoke.PMID:37309231 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v55.4442

Occupational exposure to noise and dust in Swedish soft paper mills and mortality from ischemic heart disease and ischemic stroke: a cohort study
ConclusionNoise levels  >  90 dBA was associated with increased IHD mortality. Combined exposures of noise and paper dust may further increase the risks. Our results do not provide support for a causal relationship for ischemic stroke. Residual confounding from smoking has to be considered. Workers need to be protected fro m occupational noise levels exceeding 90 dBA.

Carbon dioxide flooding to reduce postoperative neurological injury following surgery for acute type A aortic dissection: a prospective, randomised, blinded, controlled clinical trial, CARTA study protocol - objectives and design
This report describes the objectives and design of the CARTA trial, investigating whether carbon dioxide flooding reduces neurological injury following surgery for ATAAD. Methods and analysis The CARTA trial is a single-centre, prospective, randomised, blinded, controlled clinical trial of ATAAD surgery with carbon dioxide flooding of the surgical field. Eighty consecutive patients undergoing repair of ATAAD, and who do not have previous neurological injuries or ongoing neurological symptoms, will be randomised (1:1) to either receive carbon dioxide flooding of the surgical field or not. Routine repair will be performed r...

FIND Stroke Recovery Study (FIND): rationale and protocol for a longitudinal observational cohort study of trajectories of recovery and biomarkers poststroke
Introduction Comprehensive studies mapping domain-specific trajectories of recovery after stroke and biomarkers reflecting these processes are scarce. We, therefore, initiated an exploratory prospective observational study of stroke cases with repeated evaluation, the FIND Stroke Recovery Study. We aim to capture trajectories of recovery from different impairments, including cognition, in combination with broad profiling of blood and imaging biomarkers of the recovery. Methods and analysis We recruit individuals with first-ever stroke at the stroke unit at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sweden, to FIND. The inclusio...

Lifestyle-related habits and factors before and after cardiovascular diagnosis: a case control study among 2,548 Swedish individuals
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that a CVD event may increase motivation to improve lifestyle habits. Nonetheless, the prevalence of unhealthy lifestyle habits was still high, emphasizing the need to improve implementation of primary and secondary CVD prevention.PMID:37020317 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-023-01446-w

Unmet Need for Sexual Rehabilitation after Acquired Brain Injury (ABI): A Cross-Sectional Study Concerning Sexual Activity, Sexual Relationships, and Sexual Rehabilitation after ABI
This study aims to explore experiences after non-stroke ABI concerning individual and relational aspects of sexuality, received information about sexuality at rehabilitation, and gender differences. A postal nationwide survey was conducted in Sweden, 2018 –2019. The sample included individuals who had participated in brain injury rehabilitation 2014–2016, response rate 40% (250/624). Among all participants 78% had resumed sexual activity, and there was a significant difference between males (84%, 118/140) and females (69%, 76/110,p = 0.004). Among all participants, 95% reported physical intimacy as important, 80% c...

Association of cognitive function very early after stroke with subjective cognitive complaints after 3 months, a register-based study
This study aimed to investigate whether cognition screened at acute stroke units could explain subjective cognitive complaints 3 months after stroke and evaluate how the severity of stroke and age could influence this association. MethodsIn this register-based longitudinal study, data were retrieved from three Swedish registers between November 2014 and June 2019. Information on subjective cognitive complaints (SCC) was collected from the Riksstroke 3-month follow-up form, which were used to analyze the primary outcomes. Cognitive function screened using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) at acute stroke units was ex...
