Therapeutic Dilemma of Wake-up Stroke: Clinical and Brain Imaging Characteristics and Reperfusion as a Treatment Option
Conclusions: Only minor dissimilarities between clinical and radiologic features of WUS and clear-onset stroke were found. Circadian patterns of stroke onset were observed in both groups. Stroke was more likely to occur during waking than during sleep, and a diurnal pattern of common occurrence during the morning was documented. Recognition of the acceptable timeframe for acute reperfusion therapy in unwitnessed strokes is crucial so that thrombolytic treatment can be started for these patients.PMID:36441986 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.21m03216

Intracerebral Hemorrhages Related to Clinical Conditions and Associated Outcomes Among Saudi and Non-Saudi Patients in a University Hospital: A Retrospective Study
Conclusion: Non-Saudi ICH survivors had significant intraventricular extension of hematoma and required more neurosurgical interventions such as EVD procedures compared to Saudi patients. Both groups had associated comorbidities that may influence the incidence of ICH. Appropriate medical care to prevent stroke complications, especially for the older male population, as a strategy for secondary prevention of such neurologic sequelae is recommended.PMID:36280387 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.21m03192

Prevalence of depression and its associated factors among stroke survivors in Saudi Arabia
AbstractAimThe purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of poststroke depression (PSD) in Saudi Arabia and its association with socio-demographic and clinical factors.DesignA predictive correlational cross-sectional study.MethodsThe study adopted a non-probability convenience sampling method to recruit 211 stroke survivors between April and October 2021 from the neurology outpatient departments of two main governmental hospitals in Saudi Arabia. PSD was measured using a self-assessment reliable and valid scale (The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS]).ResultsMore than two-thirds (70.6%) of the study...

Genotype and Phenotype of Adenosine Deaminase 2 Deficiency: a Report from Saudi Arabia
AbstractAdenosine deaminase 2 deficiency (DADA2), a rare and potentially fatal systemic autoinflammatory disease, is characterized by low or lack of ADA2 activity due toADA2 mutations. DADA2 symptoms are variable and include vasculitis, immunodeficiency, and cytopenia. Minimal data are available from Saudi Arabia. This retrospective study conducted at seven major tertiary medical centers examined the phenotypic and genotypic variabilities, clinical and diagnostic findings, and treatment outcomes among 20 Saudi patients with DADA2 from 14 families. The median age of the study cohort was 9.5  years (4–26 years). The clin...

Potential mechanisms for poor glycaemic control in patients with type two diabetes and fear of hypoglycaemia
ConclusionA significant finding of this study highlighted the considerable and direct effect of fear of hypoglycaemia on poor glycaemic control among patients with T2D. However, only fear-related anxiety and avoidance —and not confidence in the ability to control low glucose levels—had an effect on poor glycaemic control.

Risk factors, infarct patterns and outcome differ between anterior and posterior circulation strokes attributed to intracranial large artery atherosclerotic steno-occlusive disease
CONCLUSION: AIS attributed to ICLAS differs between ACS and PCS. Observed differences in risk factors' distribution, infarct pattern, underlying mechanism and outcome between two phenotypes carry important therapeutic and prognostic implications.PMID:36150301 | DOI:10.1016/j.clineuro.2022.107442

Prevalence of stroke and myocardial infarction among patients with deteriorated GFR
CONCLUSIONS: Deteriorated GFR <60 mL/min is significantly associated with stroke and myocardial infarction. Stroke and MI are more prevalent among men than women. Stroke and MI are more prevalent in middle-aged adults and older individuals.PMID:36111945 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202209_29649
