Using convolutional neural network to analyze brain MRI images for predicting functional outcomes of stroke
AbstractNowadays, the physicians usually predict functional outcomes of stroke based on clinical experiences and big data, so we wish to develop a model to accurately identify imaging features for predicting functional outcomes of stroke patients. Using magnetic resonance imaging of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients, we developed and trained a VGG-16 convolutional neural network (CNN) to predict functional outcomes after 28-day hospitalization. A total of 44 individuals (24 men and 20 women) were recruited from Taoyuan General Hospital and China Medical University Hsinchu Hospital to enroll in the study. Based on â€...

DES reduce the risk of ISR in patients with ICAS compared to BMS
Dr. Snipe Clinical question: In patients with symptomatic high-grade intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS), does the use of a drug-eluting stent (DES) reduce the incidence of in-stent restenosis (ISR) and stroke recurrence compared to using a bare-metal stent (BMS)? Background: ICAS is a common cause of stroke in North America (accounting for 8-10% of strokes) and is even more common in Asia (accounting for 30-50% of strokes). In previous trials, aggressive medical management was found to be the superior first-line treatment, but intracranial stenting is growing in popularity and safety. DES is known to reduce ISR ...

Persistence of drug therapy is associated with ischemic stroke and other vascular events in high-risk stroke population
The high-risk stroke populations are significantly associated with an increased risk of stroke or other vascular events. Although proven primary and secondary stroke prevention medications are available, persistent use is required to be effective. However, the persistence of drug therapy and its association with outcomes in the high-risk stroke population have received limited study in China. Hence, according to the China National Stroke Screening Survey (CNSSS) program in 2015, we performed this multicenter population-based cross-sectional survey and prospective cohort study in Sichuan of southwestern China. The residents...

Clinical Features of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease and Its Correlation with Tumour Necrosis Factor in Cardiology
Comput Math Methods Med. 2022 Jun 30;2022:3439768. doi: 10.1155/2022/3439768. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTTumour necrosis factor (TNF) levels are higher in patients who have experienced an acute ischemic stroke. Greater levels of TNF may not be linked to an increased risk of recurrent coronary events in the stable phase after myocardial ischemia (MI). Coronary atheroma is connected to endothelial and smooth muscle cells, as well as macrophages that emit the multifunctional cytokine tumour necrosis factor (TNF). Transplanted tumours become more vulnerable when TNF-α was first recognized to have a function in hemorrhagic necro...

Pooled incidence and case-fatality of acute stroke in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao: A systematic review and meta-analysis
by Fan He, Irene Blackberry, Liqing Yao, Haiyan Xie, Tshepo Rasekaba, George Mnatzaganian BackgroundStroke incidence and case-fatality in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao vary by geographic region and rates often differ across and within regions. This systematic review and meta-analysis (SR) estimated the pooled incidence and short-term case-fatality of acute first ever stroke in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. MethodsLongitudinal studies published in English or Chinese after 1990 were searched in PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, SinoMed and CQVIP. The incidence was expressed as Poisson means estim...
