Self-reported sleep disturbances among people who have had a stroke: a cross-sectional analysis
CMAJ. 2023 Mar 14;195(10):E354-E362. doi: 10.1503/cmaj.221063.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances and their potential association with stroke remains understudied at a population level. We sought to determine the prevalence of sleep disturbances among people who have effects of stroke compared with the general population.METHODS: We used data from people aged 18 years or older who responded to the sleep and chronic disease modules of the 2017-2018 cycle of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS). We measured sleep disturbances by self-reports of having trouble staying awake most or all of the time; either short (<...

Associations between environmental noise and myocardial infarction and stroke: Investigating the potential mediating effects of hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: This population-based cohort study suggests that the main route by which environmental noise exposure may cause MI or stroke is not through hypertension.PMID:37172682 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.116092

Responsiveness of the Reaching Performance Scale for Stroke
CONCLUSION: In addition to being reliable and valid, the RPSS is also responsive. Along with the FMA-UE, using RPSS scores can help present a more comprehensive picture of motor compensations to characterize post-stroke upper limb motor improvement.PMID:37178950 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2023.04.020

Oral probiotic therapy improves motor function in a rodent model of sensorimotor stroke
In this study, we examined the effect of post-stroke oral probiotic therapy on motor behavior in the pre-clinical mouse endothelin-1 (ET-1) model of sensorimotor stroke. We found that post-stroke oral probiotic therapy with Cerebiome® (Lallemand, Montreal, Canada), containing B. longum R0175 and L. helveticus R0052, improved functional recovery and changed the composition of the post-stroke gut microbiota. Interestingly, oral Cerebiome® administration did not result in alterations of lesion volume or the number of CD8+/Iba1+ cells in the injured tissue. Overall, these findings suggest that probiotic treatment following i...

Population-based study of home-time by stroke type and correlation with modified Rankin score
Conclusions: We showed that home-time is an objective and graded indicator that is correlated with disability after stroke. It is obtainable from administrative data, applicable to different stroke types, and a valuable outcome indicator in population-based health services research.

Elevated Incidence of Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke in Patients With Atrial Flutter —A Population-Based Study
Conclusions Patients with isolated atrial flutter develop AF and stroke at a higher rate than the general population. Catheter ablation reduces but does not eliminate future AF incidence and stroke risk and continued anticoagulation after successful atrial flutter ablation might therefore be warranted.

La présente étude décrit l’incidence de la FA et de l'AVC chez les patients atteints de flutter auriculaire, et montre si l’ablation du flutt...
