Experience and insights from a prolonged electrocardiographic monitorization with a wearable system after an embolic stroke of unknown source
ConclusionPCMw represents a feasible non-invasive device that could reliably detect subclinical AF episodes after an ESUS. Diagnostic yield was significatively higher when used within the first 30  days after the event, especially in selected patients. UAE were common, but did not impact prognosis.

Electrocardiographic Morphology-Voltage-P-Wave-Duration (MVP) Score to Select Patients for Continuous Atrial Fibrillation Screening to Prevent Stroke
Morphology-voltage-P-wave-duration (MVP) score combining P-wave duration (PWD), P-wave voltage in lead I (PWVI), and interatrial block (IAB) has been demonstrated to predict atrial fibrillation (AF). Therefore, this study aimed to examine MVP score and its P-wave components as potential predictors of AF screening effects on stroke prevention. This was a secondary analysis of the LOOP Study (Atrial Fibrillation detected by Continuous ECG Monitoring using Implantable Loop Recorder to prevent Stroke in High-risk Individuals) which randomized older persons (aged 70 to 90  years) with additional stroke risk factors to either c...

Diagnosis of atrial fibrillation in young patients with ischemic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
The recommended cardiac rhythm evaluation to determine the etiology of ischemic stroke (IS) is similar in all patients regardless of their age and includes an electrocardiogram and at least a 24-hour heart rhythm monitoring. However, it is known that the main causes of IS vary according to patients ’ age. There is a higher preponderance of arterial dissections and patent foramen ovale in younger patients, while atrial fibrillation (AF) is more common in older patients.

Supermarket trolleys may be able to spot people most at risk of a STROKE by detecting a faulty heartbeat
The trolleys are fitted with electrocardiogram (ECG) technology to detect hidden atrial fibrillation (AF), an irregular heartbeat that is a leading cause of stroke.

Regular pulse checks for patients with non-cardioembolic stroke in rehabilitation hospitals to improve recognition and detection of atrial fibrillation (the ESCORT study): protocol for a prospective multicenter observational study
ConclusionThe findings of this study will help identify patients with AF in rehabilitation hospitals and improve awareness among therapists.

Association between long-term exposure to PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > constituents and electrocardiographic abnormality: A nationwide longitudinal study in China
CONCLUSION: Differential associations between various constituents of PM2.5 and ECG abnormalities were found. The unequal toxicities for different chemical constituents of ambient particles on cardiovascular electrophysiological endpoints should be taken into consideration when considering the biological pathways linking PM2.5 and cardiovascular conditions.PMID:37572496 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2023.108130

Atrial Myopathy and Ischemic Stroke in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction
We examined the hypothesis that atrial myopathy may be associated with ischemic stroke in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This is an exploratory, post hoc analysis of the Treatment of Preserved Cardiac Function Heart Failure with an Aldosterone Antagonist (TOPCAT) trial. Patients with sinus rhythm documented at baseline electrocardiogram and without known AF were included in this analysis.

Abnormal P-Wave Axis Predicts Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Ischaemic Stroke or Transient Ischaemic Attack
This study sought to assess whether the presence of aPWA can prognosticate cardiovascular outcomes in patients admitted with ischaemic neurovascular events without captured AF.

Screening for undiagnosed atrial fibrillation using a single-lead electrocardiogram at primary care visits: patient uptake and practitioner perspectives from the VITAL-AF trial
CONCLUSIONS: Though the benefits and harms of screening for AF remain uncertain, most older patients underwent screening and PCPs were able to manage SL-ECG results, supporting the feasibility of routine primary care screening. PCPs exposed to a SL-ECG device preferred it over pulse palpation. PCPs were largely uncertain about AF screening done outside of practice visits.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03515057. Antithrombotiques oraux et pronostic apr ès un an des patients atteints de fibrillation auriculaire dans un milieu à ressources limitées
CONCLUSION: Half of patients with atrial fibrillation in this registry developed an outcome after one year of follow-up, with heart failure, new onset and paroxystic atrial fibrillation being the main predicting factors. Diagnosing and managing atrial fibrillation in patients with heart disease should therefore be considered as a key priority.PMID:37331159 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101616
