Impact of non-adherence to direct oral anticoagulants amongst Swedish patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: results from a real-world cost-utility analysis
CONCLUSION: Adherence improving interventions for NVAF patients on DOACs such as chronic disease co-management and patient education can be cost-saving and cost-effective, within a range of costs that appear reasonable to the Swedish healthcare system.PMID:35997241 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2022.2116848

Appropriateness of Non-vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants Dosing According to Different Prescription Guides Used in Belgian Ambulatory Care
ConclusionsInappropriate NOAC dosing is present in almost twenty percent of AF patients according to the SmPC and requires further education of health care professionals and frequent reassessment of NOAC dosing. However, a significant lower prevalence of underdosing was present when judged by the 2018 EHRA criteria, likely reflecting decision making in complex AF patients. Perceived frailty, weight, renal function and type of NOAC are the main determinants of deviated dosing.

Outcome disparities in patients with atrial fibrillation based on insurance plan and educational attainment: a nationwide, multicenter and prospective cohort trial
Conclusion Educational attainment was independently associated with all-cause mortality and ischaemic stroke in patients with AF, but adverse clinical outcomes were not related to the types of health insurance in Thailand. Trial registration number Thai Clinical Trial Registration; Study ID: TCTR20160113002.

How do cardiovascular risk factors correlate with post-stroke cognitive function: Directly or indirectly through stroke severity?
ConclusionThis is the first Chinese study exploring the moderated and mediating associations between cardiovascular risk factors, stroke severity, and cognitive function after stroke. Age, female sex, and atrial fibrillation were directly associated with lower cognition after stroke. The combination of hypertension might have a positive effect on cognition.

Nurses' knowledge of anticoagulation therapy for atrial fibrillation patients: Effectiveness of an educational course
ConclusionThe educational course was effective in improving the nurses' knowledge. Baccalaureate degree holders achieved more improvement in their knowledge scores. Post-graduate education for nurses would help to improve their knowledge of anticoagulants. Revision of nursing curricula may be deemed necessary to improve the quality of education for nurses during their degree work, especially regarding anticoagulants.

Association of income and educational levels with adherence to direct oral anticoagulant therapy in patients with incident atrial fibrillation: A Finnish nationwide cohort study
In conclusion, we observed that income and ed ucational levels both have independent positive association on the implementation of DOAC therapy but no association on therapy persistence in patients with AF.

Ap-519-04 development of the atrial fibrillation “behavioral cha2ds2-vasc” in electrophysiology clinics
AF etiology, recurrence, and burden are influenced by both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors spanning biological, behavioral, and demographic factors. There is increased interest in understanding and measuring behavioral risk factors (e.g., alcohol, sedentariness, smoking) associated with AF, to reduce stroke risk. An efficient measure of lifestyle factors in AF would allow for rapid clinical assessment and appropriate patient education and referral.

Forty-four-year longitudinal study of stroke incidence and risk factors - the Prospective Population Study of Women in Gothenburg
CONCLUSIONS: Several classic risk factors showed independent associations with stroke. Vulnerability factors as low education and oral health, reflected by loss of teeth, also showed association with stroke. All these factors are possible to target in primary care preventive interventions.Key PointsStroke is a common disease and the risk of stroke is a key issue demanding preventive strategies in primary health care. The present prospective population study of women showsOut of 1460 women, almost a quarter got a stroke. The stroke incidence 60-82 years of age was rather stable between the first four age cohorts but somewha...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 4467: A Nurse-Led Integrated Chronic Care E-Enhanced Atrial Fibrillation (NICE-AF) Clinic in the Community: A Preliminary Evaluation
This study aims to provide a preliminary evaluation of the effectiveness of a Nurse-led Integrated Chronic care E-enhanced Atrial Fibrillation (NICE-AF) clinic in the community. The NICE-AF clinic was led by an advanced practice nurse (APN) who collaborated with a family physician. The clinic embodied integrated care and shifted from hospital-based, physician-centric care. Regular patient education, supplemented by a specially curated webpage, fast-tracked appointments for hospital-based specialised investigations, and teleconsultation with a hospital-based cardiologist were the highlights of the clinic. Forty-three partic...
