Social Determinants of Health and Racial Disparities in Cardiac Events in Breast Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Neighborhood and built environment variables are the most important SDOH predictors for 2-year MACE, and NHB patients were more likely to have unfavorable SDOH conditions. This finding reinforces that race is a social construct.PMID:37433439 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2023.7023

Improving outcomes of AF ablation by integrated personalized lifestyle interventions: rationale and design of the prevention to improve outcomes of PVI (POP) trial
This study is a prospective, 1:1 randomized, single centre, investigator-initiated clinical trial in 150 patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF referred for a first pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Prior to the ablation, patients in the intervention group receive a personalized risk factor treatment programme in a specialized, protocolized, nurse-led outpatient clinic. Patient education and durable lifestyle management is promoted with an e-health platform. Patients in the control group receive standard care by cardiologists before ablation. The primary endpoint is the number of hospitalizations for re-ablation and cardi...

Race, ethnicity, sex, and socioeconomic disparities in anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation: A narrative review of contemporary literature
J Natl Med Assoc. 2023 Mar 5:S0027-9684(23)00034-2. doi: 10.1016/j.jnma.2023.02.008. While anticoagulation is effective at preventing strokes, prior work has highlighted significant disparities in anticoagulation prescribing. Furthermore, racial, ethnic, sex, and socioeconomic disparities in AF outcomes have been described. As such, we aimed to review recent data on disparities with respect to anticoagulation for AF published between January 2018 and February 2021. The...
