MAGT1 Deficiency Dysregulates Platelet Cation Homeostasis and Accelerates Arterial Thrombosis and Ischemic Stroke in Mice
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that MAGT1 and TRPC6 are functionally linked. Therefore, deficiency or impaired functionality of MAGT1 could be a potential risk factor for arterial thrombosis and stroke.PMID:37381987 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.122.318115

Subclinical Vascular Composites Predict Clinical Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, and Dementia: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
CONCLUSIONS: Subclinical vascular composites of arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis may be useful biomarkers to inform the vascular pathways contributing to events of CVD, CHD, stroke, and dementia.PMID:37205504 | PMC:PMC10187443 | DOI:10.1101/2023.05.01.23289364

Force Sensing by Piezo Channels in Cardiovascular Health and Disease.
Abstract Mechanical forces are fundamental in cardiovascular biology, and deciphering the mechanisms by which they act remains a testing frontier in cardiovascular research. Here, we raise awareness of 2 recently discovered proteins, Piezo1 and Piezo2, which assemble as transmembrane triskelions to combine exquisite force sensing with regulated calcium influx. There is emerging evidence for their importance in endothelial shear stress sensing and secretion, NO generation, vascular tone, angiogenesis, atherosclerosis, vascular permeability and remodeling, blood pressure regulation, insulin sensitivity, exercise per...

Correlation Between Intracranial Arterial Calcification and Imaging of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Conclusion: Intracranial artery calcification is common in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and the intracranial carotid artery is most frequently affected. Intracranial arterial calcifications might be associated with imaging markers of SVD and are highly correlated with WMHs, lacunes, and CMBs. Quantification of calcification on CT provides additional information on the pathophysiology of SVD. Intracranial arterial calcification could act as a potential marker of SVD. Introduction Atherosclerosis is a systemic vascular process that is considered a major cause of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular di...

TRPM7 (Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin-Like 7 Channel) Kinase Controls Calcium Responses in Arterial Thrombosis and Stroke in Mice.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results identify TRPM7 kinase as a key modulator of phospholipase C signaling and store-operated Ca(2+) entry in platelets. The protection of Trpm7(R/R) mice from acute ischemic disease without developing intracranial hemorrhage indicates that TRPM7 kinase might be a promising antithrombotic target.
