Impact of alcohol control policy on hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke mortality rates in Lithuania: An interrupted time series analysis
This study aimed to test the impact of three major Lithuanian alcohol control policies implemented in 2008, 2017 and 2018 on sex- and stroke subtype-specific mortality rates, among individuals 15+ years-old. Joinpoint regression analyses were performed for each sex- and stroke subtype-specific group to identify timepoints corresponding with significant changes in mortality rate trends. To estimate the impact of each policy, interrupted time series analyses using a generalized additive mixed model were performed on monthly sex- and stroke subtype-specific age-standardized mortality rates from January 2001-December 2018. Sig...

Alcohol consumption and microvascular dysfunction: a J-shaped association: The Maastricht Study
Microvascular dysfunction (MVD) is an important contributor to major clinical disease such as stroke, dementia, depression, retinopathy, and chronic kidney disease. Alcohol consumption may be a determinant of ...

Letter to the Editor: An isolated insular stroke mimics a bout of overt hepatic encephalopathy in a patient with cirrhosis
The manifestations of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) vary from mild neuropsychiatric abnormalities to coma 1,2. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis can be challenging, especially in the hospital setting, where patients may suffer from other metabolic encephalopathies or neurological/psychiatric disorders 1,2,3. Moreover, HE might also occur on top of pre-existing disease, such as dementia 1. Any potential HE precipitating factor should be identified and treated promptly 1. In patients with delirium and cirrhosis, even those with a working diagnosis of HE, a set of laboratory tests including a full blood count, glucose, elect...

Correlation Analysis of Persistence and Recurrence of Stroke in Young Patients Based on Big Data in Healthcare
This study aims to analyze the correlation between the persistence and recurrence of stroke in young patients via big data in healthcare. It provides an in-depth introduction to the background of big data in healthcare and a detailed description of stroke symptoms, so as to better apply the Apriori parallelization algorithm based on compression matrix (PBCM) algorithm against the background of big data in healthcare to analyze it. In our study, patients were randomly divided into 2 groups. By observing the different persistent relationships in the groups, the factors affecting the patients' fasting blood glucose (FBG), gly...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 2598: Gastrodin and Gastrodigenin Improve Energy Metabolism Disorders and Mitochondrial Dysfunction to Antagonize Vascular Dementia
This study explored the effects of Gas and HBA on cognitive dysfunction in VD and their possible molecular mechanisms. The VD model was established by bilateral common carotid artery ligation (2-vessel occlusion, 2-VO) combined with an intraperitoneal injection of sodium nitroprusside solution. One week after modeling, Gas (25 and 50 mg/kg, i.g.) and HBA (25 and 50 mg/kg, i.g.) were administered orally for four weeks, and the efficacy was evaluated. A Morris water maze test and passive avoidance test were used to observe their cognitive function, and H&E staining and Nissl staining were used to observe the neur...
