Use of Warfarin at Discharge Among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in China Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The rate of warfarin use remains low among patients with ischemic stroke and known nonvalvular atrial fibrillation in China. Hospital size and academic status together with patient age, heart failure, heavy alcohol drinking, international normalized ratio in hospital, and stroke severity on admission were each independently associated with the use of warfarin at discharge. There is much room for improvement for secondary stroke prevention in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients in China.

Trends in Age of First-Ever Stroke Following Increased Incidence and Life Expectancy in a Low-Income Chinese Population Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The age of stroke onset tends to be younger among low-income population in China after the dramatic increased incidence of stroke during the gradual extension of life expectancy of population in China. These findings suggested that stroke burden will continue to increase in the long time, unless the risk factors in low-income populations are effectively controlled.

Alcohol Consumption at Midlife and Risk of Stroke During 43 Years of Follow-Up: Cohort and Twin Analyses Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Stroke-risk associated with heavy drinking (>2 drinks/d) in midlife seems to predominate over well-known risk factors, hypertension and diabetes, until the age of 75 years and may shorten time to stroke by 5 years above and beyond covariates and genetic/early-life factors. Alcohol consumption should be considered an age-varying risk factor for stroke.

Gender differences in physical activity and health-related behaviors among stroke survivors: data from the 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Conclusions—Infections present on admission increased stroke risk during delivery admissions in women with and without hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The results were driven by genitourinary infections and sepsis. Infections may be an underrecognized precipitant of peripartum stroke.

Systematic review of the effectiveness of pharmacological interventions in the treatment of spasticity of the hemiparetic lower extremity more than six months post stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Pharmacological treatment initiated 6 months post stroke reduced lower limb spasticity. Relevant areas of exploration for future research could include the period of effectiveness, long-term complications, and a cost-benefit analysis of such treatments. Conclusions—Healthy lifestyle was not associated with a lower risk of adverse stroke outcomes, in particularly among men. However, underweight may be a particular concern being associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes among both sexes.

Conclusions— Many case reports support a causal link between cannabis and cerebrovascular events. This accords well with epidemiological and mechanistic research on the cerebrovascular effects of cannabis.
