Simple aspiration with balloon catheter technique (simple ABC technique) against proximal internal carotid artery occlusion in cases of cardiogenic cerebral embolism.
Conclusion The simple ABC technique is useful to deal with a large amount of thrombus, shortens procedure time, enables less invasive thrombectomy, and can shift immediately to subsequent procedures such as delivering a stent retriever or ADAPT. PMID: 29378450 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Feasibility of Permanent Stenting with Solitaire FR as a Rescue Treatment for the Reperfusion of Acute Intracranial Artery Occlusion INTERVENTIONAL
CONCLUSIONS: Permanent stent placement with the Solitaire FR compared with other self-expanding stents appears to be feasible and safe as a rescue tool for refractory intra-arterial therapy.

Endovascular aspiration of a symptomatic free-floating common carotid artery thrombus
AbstractFree-floating thrombi of the common carotid artery (CCA) are a very rare cause of ischemic stroke. To date, only a few reports have been described in the academic literature. Revascularization is indicated due to the risk of thromboembolic disease and hemodynamic-related stroke syndromes. Medical treatment typically includes anticoagulation and, in some circumstances, open surgical thrombectomy is an additional option. Although rarely described in the literature, endovascular thrombectomy is a viable treatment alternative in these patients.

Thrombus Permeability on Dynamic CTA Predicts Good Outcome after Reperfusion Therapy INTERVENTIONAL
CONCLUSIONS: Thrombus permeability assessed on dynamic CTA could be a better predictor of outcome after reperfusion therapy than that assessed on conventional single-phase CTA.

Primary diagnosis of pulmonary embolism with unenhanced MRI for patients not eligible for CTPA: Clinical outcome
ConclusionsOur method supported or altered clinical decision-making and treatment in this cohort. A diagnostic tool for PE without intravenous contrast agent or radiation is of great benefit for certain patients.

Novel Echocardiographic Biomarkers in the Management of Atrial Fibrillation
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in adults. The number of patients with AF is anticipated to increase annually, mainly due to the aging population alongside improved arrhythmia detection. AF is associated with a significantly elevated risk of hospitalization, stroke, thromboembolism, heart failure, and all-cause mortality. Echocardiography is one of the key components of routine assessment and management of AF. Therefore, the aim of this review is to briefly summarize current knowledge on “novel” echocardiographic parameters that may be of value in the management of AF pat...

Are cerebral ischaemic complications more likely to occur in elderly patients undergoing transradial non ‐coronary intervention: A single‐centre retrospective review
ConclusionTransradial non ‐coronary interventions are safe in elderly patients, who are likely to have more atherosclerotic disease of the aorta. Of note, no complication of ischaemic strokes within 30 days of the procedure is documented in all patients.

Computed Tomography Angiogram: Diagnosing Device Placement Failure
In patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) and increased stroke risk, the left atrial appendage (LAA) is a primary source of thrombus [1]. Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC), a minimally invasive procedure, is increasingly performed to reduce AF stroke risk [1]. For successful clinical outcomes, it is therefore imperative that the Watchman implant —one such LAA closure device—maintains long-term efficacy. The PROTECT-AF trial, for instance, reported peridevice leak in 32% of patients post-LAAC.

Intraluminal Carotid Artery Thrombus in COVID-19: Another Danger of Cytokine Storm? EXTRACRANIAL VASCULAR
We report a series of 6 patients with COVID-19 with acute ischemic stroke due to intraluminal carotid artery thrombus presenting during an 8-day period. Six patients were included (5 men) with a mean age of 65.8 years (range, 55–78 years). COVID-19 was diagnosed by detection of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 in 5 patients and was presumed due to typical clinical and imaging findings in 1 patient. All patients had vascular risk factors including diabetes (83%), hyperlipidemia (100%), and smoking (17%). Four patients presented with large infarcts with initial NIHSS scores of 24–30. During their h...

Endoluminal flow diverters in the treatment of sidewall and bifurcation aneurysm: A systematic review and meta-analysis of complications and angiographic outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis of sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms treated with endoluminal flow diverters demonstrated no significant differences in complications or occlusion rates. These data provide new information that can be used as a benchmark for comparison with emerging devices for the treatment of bifurcation aneurysms.PMID:34154429 | DOI:10.1177/15910199211026713
