Rescue therapy after thrombectomy for large vessel occlusion due to underlying atherosclerosis: review of literature
Front Neurol. 2023 Jun 16;14:1181295. doi: 10.3389/fneur.2023.1181295. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTIn this review article, we summarized the current advances in rescue management for reperfusion therapy of acute ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion due to underlying intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). It is estimated that 24-47% of patients with acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion have underlying ICAS and superimposed in situ thrombosis. These patients have been found to have longer procedure times, lower recanalization rates, higher rates of reocclusion and lower rates of favorable outcomes than patients ...

Staged endovascular recanalization for symptomatic atherosclerotic non-acutely occluded internal carotid artery
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective study found that staged endovascular recanalization for symptomatic atherosclerotic NAOICA may be feasible with an acceptable technical success rate and a low complication rate in the selected candidates.PMID:36883208 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231162666

Developing Of A New Animal Artery Model Of Atherothrombotic Stenosis Using Radiofrequency Thermal Balloon Angioplasty- Mediated Endothelial Injury: Monitored By Color Doppler Ultrasonography And Histopathology
Background and Aims: A plaque may rupture with high risk of subsequent thrombus- mediated acute clinical events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. The aim of this study was to generate a reproducible experimental hamster abdominal aorta model of atherothrombotic stenosis with morphological similarities to the human disease.

Treatment of Simultaneous Thromboembolism of the Right and Left Coronary Arteries with Thrombus Aspiration in a Patient with a Prosthetic Mitral Valve.
Authors: Sığırcı S, Keskin K, Sezai Yıldız S, Aksan G, Bambul Sığırcı B, Orta Kılıçkesmez K Abstract Prosthetic heart valve thrombosis is a rare, difficult-to-treat condition that increases morbidity and mortality by leading to systemic embolism. Clinically, it presents mainly in the form of stroke, though an embolism be observed in many systems. Acute coronary syndrome, which is rarely observed in patients with a prosthetic heart valve, mostly occurs as non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (MI). There is no specific recommendation for the treatment of this condition. Revascularization succes...

Immediate and midterm results of balloon angioplasty for recurrent aortic coarctation in children aged < 1 year.
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, percutaneous balloon angioplasty for recoarctation in young infants aged<1 year improved aortic isthmus diameter with a low incidence of adverse event. However, the rate of further intervention is high, and is associated with a smaller balloon size. PMID: 29030063 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Temporal Trends in Clinical Outcomes Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with Renal Insufficiency.
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of cardiovascular events after PCI has reduced during the 26-year period mainly because of the reduction in repeat revascularization in patients with renal insufficiency, despite the higher risk profiles in the recent era. Endocardial occlusion of incompletely surgically ligated left atrial appendage using an Amplatzer septal occluder device
A 55-year-old man underwent a surgical Maze procedure for the treatment of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation with concomitant surgical suture ligation of left atrial appendage (LAA). Baseline transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and computed tomography (CT) angiography revealed a normal LAA free of thrombus (A). Ten days after surgery, he developed an acute embolic stroke. Repeat TEE and CT angiography demonstrated an incompletely surgically ligated LAA (ISLL) without thrombus, with the ISLL neck dimensions measuring 3 × 3 mm (B). He was promptly initiated on oral anticoagulation (OAC) therapy. But owing to intolerance to...
